C&C Generals : World Building : Building PlacementMoneyThe core to all games is money. Got to have enough to build an army and defend your base, but not too much that people get too entrenched.
Supply DocksThe first buildings I place are the supply docks. These are large indestructable buildings that have 30,000 worth of supplies on them. Be careful where you place them, they do get in the way, so position them AWAY from main tank routes. On my map I've placed them on the edges of the bases/map, and spaciously away from each other in the centre of the map.
Oil DerricksOil derricks are an excellent source of money early on in the game. They give away a 1000 cash bonus when you capture them, and can turn fast games over to one side very quickly. I've put 2 oil derricks for each base on the map, and put them a good distance away from the base.Make sure the derricks are on flat land, and are accessible for troops to get around.

Towns and CitiesMy maps central feature will be the city in the centre. Of course, cities are normally made up of 1000s of buildings, but it would be impratical to represent this. Instead, for generals we merely represent a city, by putting in lots of buildings. Make sure all the buildings you use are of the same style.I've used a selection of Stan indsutrial buildings to give an easter european feel to part of the city, and a mix of the provided German buildings for the upmarket side of town. Note the gaps left between buildings, I'll add side roads into these parts later. Its easier to put the buildings in first and work out where to put these minor roads in later.
![]() After adding the side roads, its time to border the the roads with pavements. This just looks really good, attention to detail really helps.
Building FeaturesTo really identify a map, you can use terrain features. These are big buildings, or easily identifiable colections of structures. When properly themed these buildings really add alot to maps. Be careful where you place them though. Like Supply Docks, these buildings can obstruct tank movement, so be sure to make sure there is plenty of access around them.In my map, I have three making structural features. The mini-city which covers the central ring of the map. A football stadium with carparks to the east, and an industrial/chemical facility over to the west. They look good, and have plenty of access. The other two entraces to the city at the north and south have been left wide open.

The Map so farWell, take a look at the screenshot below. You can see the map has lots of detail on it. Maybe alot more then most maps. However, its lacking trees, and more importantly texturing.
