I should probably mention that the Graphire2 also ships with "light" versions of two very popular digital imaging programs. Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0, and ProCreate Painter Classic, in addition to penPalette LE from Nik Multimedia. None of these products are as good as their full-version counterparts, but if you're short on software, they're great to have and you still really do get your money's worth.

The Graphire2 is available in both USB and serial port flavors and ships witht he latest drivers; free updates of which are available from WACOM's website.

WACOM also offers tablet owners access to special image editing tutorials, and discounted software and hardware through their "Graphire Privileges" program.

Let's Wrap It Up

If you're new to digital art, or aren't sure if you want to spend the money on a tablet that you may or nay not like (let's face it, this thing does take more getting used to than one would expect), then the Graphire2 is a good choice for a first tablet. It allows you to enjoy the benefts that a good tablet has to offer while keeping the price low. At the same time it provides you what a good understanding of what it's like to use a tablet and what its capabilities are.

I'm also going to say here that I personally feel that the Graphire2 is a great tablet for students. In addition to being affordable, it's small enough to drop into a backpack and take anywhere. Mine made several trips back and forth between home and the computer lab in the art department.

You may find larger tablets at lower prices from other brands, but honestly, of the several that I've tried, I've never seen a generic brand of tablet that could hold up to WACOM's quality and performance.

If you're a student or teacher, you should contact WACOM about academic pricing. You'll recieve roughly a 20% discount on all WACOM tablets. As with anything, you should shop around for a good deal. You'll find that prices vary by a few dollars in either direction.

That being said, the Graphire2 is definately worth the omney, and a lot of fun to use. -- Once you've used a WACOM tablet, you'll never want to draw with a brick- er.. I mean mouse, again.
