      In review, it looks like she has had a very difficult 6 months since September, having to deal with a growing number of threats, and specific death threats.

      I'll retract, she hasn't said anything particularly hateful, bar that first tweet, but I'm not very clear on what she wants to achieve by creating strawman arguments from video games, and then accusing game developers of promoting sexism. I don't think this was the right approach, and now she's on a career path promoting the effect that harrasment online has had for her. I'm aware that people are nasty, and that online threats to men and women are a very bad thing, but I don't agree that the cause of abuse is sexist or misogynist.

      The message is polarized, i      t perpetuates the idea that men are dominant in all areas of society. It directly suggests that men cannot be the target of sexism, which is blatantly not true. There are innumerable cases of harassment against men by women based on their gender. The message is hateful because it shows an extreme dislike towards all men, regardless of their position or power in society.

      There is no such thing as sexism against men, because in gender terms men are the dominant gender. This doesn't mean that men's lives can't suck at times, it simply means that there is no pervasive discrimination against them just for being men. A man can be discriminated against because of being working class or lower, being not heterosexual, a lack of able bodiedness, having a mental illness, being trans, being a person of color, but never because he's a man.

      Telling the truth is not hating on men, it's telling the truth. Men are simply not subject to that particular social force because society is prejudiced against women as a gender, not men as a gender.

      That's not quite true. From personal experience, for a crime, men are more likely to be convicted, incarcerated and receive a harsher sentence than women. So much that street gangs have started to use women to commit crimes since they know the women will get off easy.

      There exists some injustice against men over custody of a child. This is a bit more wobbly since it can be argued that the women could better take care of the child? There are many factors here... but there definitely exist discrimination against men.

      Men can also be victims of domestic abuse. However, they are reluctant to get help, they are expected to "man up", and would get laughed at by people if they said a "girl was beating him up". Even if they do call the police for help, this is what happens:
      "When a woman called, the man was arrested in 15.2% of cases; when a man called, the woman was arrested in 0% of cases. In fact, in 12.1% of cases when the man called, the man himself was arrested."

      I have a friend (male) who suffered at the hands of his partner (female). I have witnessed first hand what discrimination against males look like.

      It is true that men are NOT discriminated against for being men.

      The difference in crime results aren't caused by gender, they result from a number of factors.

      1. Men tend to aggravate their crimes via violence. As a result men receive longer sentences. Two people in court for theft? Chances are the theft charge the woman faces is some form of fraud, the dude is more likely to have robbed someone with violence.

      The latter tends to carry a longer sentence. In short, there's a reason why men commit 90% of homicides and woman commit only 10% of them.

      2. Benevolent sexism, where women do avoid incarceration, it's inevitably because they're the chief or only custodian of young children who would be harmed if she was incarcerated. This is because women are often lumped with all or most of the childcare duties in any relationship, a factor that carries a number of negative results.

      Ergo, straighten out the notion that women should be solely responsible for kids and maybe things would change.

      3. Women are more likely to be poor and to commit crimes due to poverty. Ergo, a judge is going to be more sympathetic to the mother who steals to feed her kids, than the guy who steals the same thing for his own benefit.

      Ergo, address gender based poverty, and things change.

      Child Custody?

      I did mention this in my prior comment:

      The courts are NOT biased against men. Men only ask for custody a mere 4 percent of the time. That's why women get custody most of the time, when men ask for arbitration, they receive custody between 50 and 70 percent of the time. To the point where men raping their daughters have been awarded custody of their victims.

      Most custody is decided outside of court between the couple though, the reason women overwhelmingly receive custody in that case is because:

      1. The socialised assumption that childcare is women's work and thus is beneath men. Men have created that, they might want to address it.

      2. Because the woman is the one whose income is typically less, ergo, she's often the one who gives up work in order to perform childcare duties. Men might want to push for equal pay so who gets custody doesn't come down to whose income is least.

      Domestic violence?

      That's not the results of discrimination against men. That's the results of toxic masculinity notions that are used as an excuse to devalue women. Misogyny backfiring on men is not men being oppressed for being men.

      It is men who have created the regressive notions of masculinity, it is men who should be dismantling them. It is men who have deemed women weak and lesser. The notion of men as hyperviolent is used to control women, to justify male violence towards women, it is in short rooted in misogyny, that it backfires on men when they get hurt is unintended.

      None of what you have brought up is discrimination against men, it is either the side effects of discrimination against women, a form of benevolent sexism, issues you haven't done your research on, or regressive notions of masculinity created as a result of oppressing women. That doesn't mean that men aren't hurt by these things, it just means that things that harm men are NOT the result of any organised discrimination against men in gender terms, they're instead the side effect of organised discrimination against women.

      Societ      y is big and complex; where you live and where I live may be very different - i.e. the societies we live in may treat men and women in completely different ways. It is well worth pointing out prejudice when and where we see it, but I cannot agree with your statements as they are too general.

      I agree that instances of discrimination can be highlighted, between class, and culture, and strength, but such instances can never prove the general statement. I find it hard to agree to any kind of general statement that involves gender, because of the natural biases associated.

      To bring this back to Anita's tweets - she provides a very female sided commentary, which is to be expected from a feminist outlet, but the issues she tries to highlight (abuse, harassment online, characterisation of game characters) are not unique to women, and so she ends up promoting an inequality which seems unrelated to the goals of feminism.

      Individual prejudice/internalised isms you suffer are very different to organised isms being inflicted on a minority by a privileged group.
