I agree, nice mural.

You could make a new switch in a secure location, and deconstruct the old one. Or, alternatively, you could dig a ditch around it with a bridge going for it, like
, ,,, ,
, .|. ,
^.s.^

Basically, ramps up at the east and west edges, a bridge, and a pit.

A small warning: If the crusher goes of while the dwarves are in there, they will all instantly die. You may want to keep a chained animal or two near the lever, so that a kobold doesn't sneak in and smash the crap out of everyone. Also, dwarves gone mad may flip levers (I think, but I'm not sure), so you may want security on the lever.

I'm using 7z for the saves because it's convenient. Get 7-Zip here if you don't have it and you wanna use the save: http://www.7-zip.org/

If you were planning on doing what I think you were, you could have trouble. Remember that water is pressurized, and you can and will flood anything. Then dig. You might (MIGHT!) not flood anything. I've built working systems, then gone onto the next and caused a disaster. Seriously.

Those siege defenses are epic. Those ballistas are kinda hazardous, though.

Still a regrettable name.

But the place looks decent.

I had a volcano/chasm combo recently. It was a lot like this one. I like it a lot.

For some reason, this isn't working for me.

My advice for obsidian? Floodgate system (or pump system). Put a small pit for lava to be stored, and open a floodgate or start a pump with the lava. Once the pit is filled, repeat with water instead (you'll probably want a different pump/floodgate for this, by the way). This results in a pit full of obsidian. Dig in.

Personal advice: Smooth areas around it if it's underground, so that you can tell which walls to dig out if you accidentally overflow with lava/water. At least the walls. (You may engrave, but it's probably a death wish.
