Bustnut - 115 Late Winter by Noble Digger

Map Description:

Åblelishlum (Bustnut) at the twilight of her 15th year.

Founded in a rocky desert beside an open magma pipe, Bustnut has struggled against a near-total lack of water, absence of flux, absence of iron, sparsity of trees, and seasonal goblin and elven ambushes. No sieges have come thus far, though all the magma-containing rooms in the entire fortress have been paved with iron flooring by the good grace of narrow iron armor from our green-skinned friends.

Point of Interest: The Shoving Tower

The Shoving Tower was completed sometime around 110. Four copper block pillars rooted in the bedrock extend from a smoothed basement all the way up to level 30 (a 15-level ascent). A copper block stairway spirals up between the four pillars to the top, and copper statues prevent clumsy dwarves from stepping off to their deaths while still allowing for a nice view of the surrounding wilds.

The tower's primary function (nay, perhaps its only function) is to house caged prisoners upon a clear glass platform at its pinnacle while they await their inevitable shoving from the unstable footing of the metal bars jutting from its edge.

The drop is 13 z-levels, and prisoners land on a mesh of black bronze bars and grates that sit betwixt the fortress' primary refuse stockpile. Most condemned beings strike the surface with enough force to propel body parts up over the 2-level-high microcline wall surrounding the fort.

Remarkably, during one of Bustnut's many purges, more than 20 puppies and 15 elves and goblins were shoved from the tower. The dwarves spent half a season collecting all the refuse and equipment, except for the numerous pieces that were thrown so high up into fortifications and statues that they could not be recovered. Many pieces were also propelled down the ramp leading up to the refuse stockpile below and proceeded to miasma in the hallways.

The Shoving Tower will eventually reach the maximum z-level, and will support a number of windmills or other structures if I feel like doing the work to put them in.

Very Interesting fortress. I enjoyed reading all the details and it makes we look back on my desert city.

Ah memories of riots.

Also, why do the elves hate you so?

Nice fortress! You maintain the wasteland splendidly. The vault is cool, and I'm going to steal your trade depot layout.

Please steal everything you like! I stole a bunch of it myself. Just put your own spin on it, improve on what you see so we all get smarter!

Thanks for the comments.

I got a kick out of your jewelers' names.

Looks like you spent more time on those POIs than you did building the fort itself. Favorited.

The text of "The Vault" has the potential to offend; might wanna tone it down a bit :P

Tis all in jest, I kid because I love. Furthermore, those are the actual names of those two dwarves ;)
