Woundspeak is a coastal city on the surface of a volcanic island. It's had a hard time in the beginning as the all of the founders and most the first immigrants died of thirst and hunger. But after necessities and trade were laid down, the city began to flourish. Fishing, quarrying, and glass working are the primary industries.
I tried to make this seem like an actual town (for what that's worth). Housing along the shore line. Commerce and shops just a bit inland with little streets going between them. A fishing pier. Factories (well, magma glass furnaces).
Apartments or flats these are still homes. They were originally built at groups centered around a well for easy access to water. It worked out well enough but there was an over abundance of basalt and not nearly enough glass to provide for the walls. This was sort-of remedied in the "open air architectural designs" that were being used. Glass walls were only used on the outside corners and basalt was used to fill in gaps. With the creation of more glass works proper walls, supports, and windows are in the plans for every home.
Many of the units are still unfinished but they stand and house a decent portion of the population. - Dakira
