My third year! I have completed the mining project I started in the year earlier. The next year will focus on ridding the central living space from excess floors and laying out the perminant rooms and slowly breaking down the temporary stockpiles and workshops.
I have 69 dwarves at the moment, including 9 legendary miners. I have gone way overboard making statues, coffers, and cabinets, mostly because I set the workshops to automatic and then forgot about them.
Even though I have brought 200 units of wood and probably traded for a 100 more, I still don't have enough. =)
My main mission during the third year was to hollow out the space around the magma pipe. I am going to try to add some interesting lore to this fortress by incorporating non-functional elements. I intend to have 8 levels of magma pipe exposed, and all rooms facing towards it. Perhaps these dwarves worship the magma for the heat it provides, which they desperately need in this frosty environment?
I have begun channelling out the outer most rim of what will be the large empty space surrounding the magma pipe. I intend to only channel the rim of the floor between the pipe and the hallway and then caving-in the floors because that might be less effort.
The bottom 1 to 3 levels of this central space will be used to store water melted from the glacier above. - Charrat
