• Δ 20. Main Dome
  Outline of the large dome roofing over the 10+ story dining hall. The dome closes on higher leves and was constructed freestanding without scaffolds - I imagine it as a major dwarven engineering feat. The eastern part of the dome is made of glass so that even the lowest levels are drenched in sun. - Peter Horner
• Δ 18. House Rules
  I use several house rules to make it a bit more difficult:
  - enemies may only be killed by siege engines or the military (no killing bridges, drowing rooms or other such designs)
  - a max of 5 cagetraps, only 8 stonefalltraps.
  - fortress must always be accessible by at least one entrance
  - heavy mechanics: all workshops, bridges and siegeengines must be 'powered': to be powered they must have an powered gear next to them. Bridges and siegeengines may only be operated if powered, workshops may only be used by novices if unpowered. - Peter Horner
• ¶ 18. Main view
  A main view of the fortress. It is in its 12th year by now and close to being finished. Main design idea was to create a huge hollow drum with towers piercing its wall. The towers house everything from accessshafts to storage or manufacturing. The hollow center does house the main dining hall - should be one of the largest ever built. It is roofed over by a large constructed dome, the eastern end of which is done in glass. The fortress is enclosed by a moat - Peter Horner
• Δ 18. Tower: Food
  Farming, plant storage, food production and - storage, butcher and tanner...plus the windmills to power these workshops - Peter Horner
• Δ 16. Main Entrance
  The main (and trader) entrance. This one is always kept open. To the south of it you can see the marksdwarf bunker, to the east the siegeengine bunker and on the southern bridge (near the chained dogs) I usually station my melee dwarves during a siege. The last two sieges were broken mainly by the siegeengines, no melee necessary. - Peter Horner
• Δ 14. Main Interior View
  The upper Main Hall - both vertical access shafts and the main entrance open into this main hall. A walkway runs around the whole circumference of the drum (outside you can see the moat). From this walkway all towers can be accessed. - Peter Horner
• Δ 14. Small waterfall
  The second waterfall - all dwarves entering the main hall from the this vertical access shaft have to go through the mist created by the fall - they like it. So far I am not sure if the waterfall cleans the dwarves as well or not... - Peter Horner
• Δ 14. Tower: Housing
  Tower housing all living quarters. Mayor and Trader on top, all others in the 10 levels below. - Peter Horner
• Δ 14. Tower: light manufacture
  Carpenter, crafts and boneworkers, siegeworkshops, clothing and shops plus the necessary storage. - Peter Horner
• Δ 13. Secure Gem Vault
  The secure Storage: Basically a double cylinder (one inside the other) made entirely out of glass. The inner part is used as storage, the space in between the two cylinders is filled with pressurized water. Anyone foolish enough to bore into the outer shell will be sprayed across the whole dining room... - Peter Horner
• Δ 13. Tower: heavy manufacture
  Charcoal, smelter, forges, glassworks plus storage. Most of these workshops open into the main dining hall to shower the eating dwarfs with sparks and the clangor of hammers, lighting the hall with the glow of the blastfurnaces... - Peter Horner
• Δ 13. Tower: Main Storage and Power
  Main Storage: Furniture, cages, mechanisms, doors, stoneblocks, siegeengine parts and the like. The very bottom of this tower houses the main powerplant (2400 units of raw energy...) - Peter Horner
• Δ 8. Central Rainbow Waterfall
  A column of water falling from near top down into the void, passing the main hall and this dining room. Now imagine the sun streaming in through the glassdome from the east, light breaking in the mists of the waterfall, creating an indoor rainbow - Peter Horner
• Δ 8. Dining Hall: excessively legendary...
  The dwarves are seated around the main void with a roof 16 levels above them. Sunlight streams in from the east, playing on the large glass gemstorage making the precious jewels glitter. The tombs of the fallen ring the dining hall on this level and the next level up, each tomb being adorned by engravings, a statue of the dead dwarf and a cage with a live captive enemy. The howls of these captive creatures compete with the clangor of the forges and the howl of the blastfurnaces which shower sparks down into the void. All in all it should be quite homely for our little bearded maniacs... - Peter Horner
