I'm building a huge fountain.
This used to be a lake, before I built a subterranean road through it.
This lake froze during winter.
My then-mayor was standing on it when it unthawed.
He, and a herbalist I don't recall well, both drowned.
He had one of my fortress's three total pickaxes with him when he died.
If you go down a level, you can see the basin into which I drained this lake, in order to recover the bodies (and that pickaxe).
I later built the northern well (see far northern end of the hallway) to take advantage of this bountiful natural resource. I then built the underground roadway, to avoid covering my surface roadways in a distasteful amount of vomit -- and to avoid pitting my water-boys against local wildlife. And drained another lake into the basin (look to your left). I think I need another lake. - Wirrit
