Spring in the third year of Reignpulleys. Progress has been quite good these last two years with several major architectural projects coming to fruition. At the time of this shot, population is a healthy 109. Food production is lagging behind quite a bit, but there's more than enough time to rectify that situation before winter sets in.
I recently looked up from some deep digging to find 4 goblin corpses mysteriously lodged in the gauntlet of stonefall traps at my main gate and one corpse just outside the gate. This was odd. I had received no notice of a siege and no notice of any jobs being interrupted by the goblins. Nonetheless it made me realize I had to get serious about equipping and training a healthy standing army and finishing my defenses. So, I put this general area at the top of my list.
You can see a mini-Medina with a central dining room and small food storage space for my metalsmiths and a few odd peasants and miners.
You can see I also favor small stockpiles for the many resources that forges/smelters need. Rather than bog my whole fortress down with hauling jobs for a season or more, it's better in my eyes to create small hauling jobs more frequently and to still have the goods close at hand for my metalsmiths. All in all I strongly favor this method and will very unlikely change my ways. - BridgeBurner

The medinas looks great, and I like the wide funnelled entrance. I'm not sure about the diagonally spaced walls on the south offices - I'm sure you can see/fire through those gaps.

I'm definitely not happy with the way some of the noble villas turned out. I agree that the diagonal tiles look awful, though I'm not so much worried about any nasties down that way.

BridgeBurner, why not patch the offices up with windows? When you put them in, they tweak the wall pattern. I think it could look much cooler then.

Ooo....great idea! I was actually wondering what the hell I was going to do with my magma glassworks. Satisfying picky fey moods just didn't seem like enough.
