Mountain-Banners, after the seventh and final year of the great Bridge-building challenge. The points of interest, if seen in order starting with "0. The sheer...", give you a guided tour of the fortress and its construction.
Bridge-building challenge thread (page five, includes 3D images):
Story: "A Journey to Mountain-Banners"
The north and south towers are smaller versions of the central tower, but devoted to defence rather than the peaceful arts and almost identical to each other.
The road passes over ramps - in which slots allow emplaced ballistae to sweep the approach with fire - and over a bridge between marksdwarf firing slots. Six ballistae are placed to fire upon enemies marching down the road to the bridge from north or south, and four to cover the bridge road between the towers. Each ballista has one round at the ready and two reloads nearby.
The levels below the road contain two wells; a barracks for sparring, steel weapon and iron ammunition stockpiles, and a secondary liquor depot. The levels above the ballistae are devoted to a shooting gallery, a bone/wood ammunition stockpile, and another barracks, this one with beds for sleeping soldiers and newcomers. - Fedor
