Shieldgears - 1054 Early Spring by Markavian

Map Description:

Spring at the end of year three, trading has been very tidy this year with the humans and dwarves bringing carefully controlled supplies of metals, and nothing else really, made for a much simpler transaction. I've fought off a few goblin snatches, and my marksdwarf turned masterful, since she spends her whole day firing practice bolts off into the distance.

Big constructions underway, a large bridge has been built across the valley to connect up to the magma vent, still deciding where to divert the magma to, since there is not much going on underground at this time. To the north of the map towers are going up for the front of a dam. I've opted to use screw pumps instead of floodgates for controlling the flow of water out of the dam, but I still need to build the power source, perhaps along the top of the dam stretching out east-west.

In the middle of the map I found digging out the surface of the brook now causes it to dry up uncontrollably, so I'm pumping water out of the brook higher up and feeding it back into the system in different places. I intend to flood 1 layer of the valley. Later I may consider raising the dam and shift my fort either underground or higher into the mountain.

Point of Interest: Dam outflow

( 1054 Early Spring → onwards )

At ground level two towers mark either side of the end of the brook. Six screw pumps provide horizontal flow for water to be sucked out of the resevoir in a controlled manner. - Markavian

What character set/title set and color theme you using?

Hey AcidWeb, I'm using a mix between my own tileset and Sphr's graphics - you can download it from the list of user graphic sets page on the wiki.

I love the Big Square Quarry. Proper dwarf. :)

Beautiful lake you have going there.

Infact, beautiful all around.

It looks very peaceful, too. No rotting goblin corpses, no menacing walls or traps.

Wow. What a very nice planned out fortress you have got there. I think I might favorite it.

I rather enjoy this fortress. Waiting to see the dome completed too!

...I had never thought of making a dome.

I may have to try that, someday.

Amazing, this is by far my favorite fort so far. Great engineering feats as well as beauty.

I love this kind of fortress; with "this kind" I intend those fortress who look like they're from a plausible fantasy world: every building seems like it's carefully projected in all its details and shape.
I love this map, and I hope to see updates in the future!

p.s. wouldn't it be nice to make somekind of repository for "believable and detailed fortresses"
