Snarledglazed - 141 Late Summer by Tharis

Map Description:

I think I'm ready to stick a fork in this one.

Point of Interest: The royal throne room

A year or two ago, one of our masons inherited the monarchy of The Road of Packs.

This is her throne, her stuff is also dug into the space beneath it. I kind of like this design. It's not every game I get a queen. - Tharis

How do you dig your trash chutes? The only way I've done it is to manually channel out however many hundreds of levels it takes, which is tiring. I mostly settle for a trash compactor these days.

also that's a really solid bedroom setup - nicely patterned but not ridiculously complicated to designate (or so I think).

I dig them the tedious way, channeling straight down with an adjoining access stair.

It's tedious, but there's something I find satisfying about it, especially knowing that every time I press "D" something is going to get incinerated.

The bedroom fractal is something I picked up from the wiki on bedroom design, aside from the mayoral quarters, which *happened* to fit very nicely in it. Setting a lower pop cap makes it more manageable as well, I always end up digging more than I need now, which is a nice problem.

Doing too many of those at once can give you wrist strain, but it is an easily repeated pattern, kind of like typing the same word over and over and over again. And being fractal, you could keep digging until you reach the edge of the map.

Your temple tower is a really nice, compact design.

And yeah, doesn't it feel nice to clean everything up? Often I take a look at the random shit strewn around my old forts and shudder.

also your "body of water" pun made me chuckle

It is a good feeling. The poem was a vague reference to a bit of doggerel in one of the Dune books, "here lies a toppled god..." I rather liked it.

The other thing this place needs is better perimeter defense. As it is I end up having every battle on my doorstep or on the hill directly above the entrance, and these are not the best locations to be defending from. We need more control over the surface.

Maybe even a ballista tower...that could be cool.

I was kind of proud of the temple. It gives me an excuse to think about building materials in odd ways.

Gotta say, on second glance that is a LOT of vomit. Like, everywhere. . . I thought your tavern was made of olivine haha.

Clearly, they didn't get outside enough.

And since now any dwarf can do construction, this means a lot of cave-adapted indoor dwarves run out *only* to do construction work.

I think in the future, if I feel like the micromanagement, I might try to create a particular cohort of construction dwarves and make sure that they spend as much of their life outdoors as possible.

that is an impressive number of broken bolts haha

Yeah, kind of wish there was a way to clean up the mess. I think the fact that you can't do a thing to get rid of the things was one of my first mild irritations with this game.

Still a fun fort. I'll update again after certain projects are completed.

are you seriously telling me almost all your visitors have decided to congregate inside a fouled, bloodied pond?

that was unexpected. . lol

also I've never considered locating a ballista tower outside the gates and shooting backwards. I might steal that design.

I've got to say, your tavern is disgusting. I'm sure it was beautiful at some point, but a foot-deep lake of puke and blood is anything but inviting.

You should soak it all up with those backpacks. . .
