Darkvault - 76 Early Autumn by Salmeuk

Map Description:

Welcome to Darkvault. Let me introduce to you one of my favorite fortresses in YEARS, and let me speak quickly because a siege just arrived and I don't know if this place if going to survive. We're at 80 dwarves but have few weapons and no armor . . . I am not a tactical overseer.

This fortress is defined by the features of the first cavern. A huge pillar of stone has been carved and tunneled into a somewhat compact fortress. Surrounded by a lake, the pillar is probably the most awesome cavern geology I've ever seen. Another lake sits a few levels above, and the rest of the cavern terrain is open and free of convoluted passageways.

It's so awesome I haven't even bothered to dig deeper.

Δ 56. Side View of the Fortress
This pillar of stone is the most amazing thing. It's completely disconnected from the rest of the cavern stone for about 7 z-levels, before plunging into the lake below. It's full of minerals and gems, and surrounded by plentiful cavern flora and spider silk.

Masonry on the left, carpentry and wood storage on the right. I like this layout a lot and might use it in my next fortress. - Salmeuk
Δ 135. Bedrooms
At ten per floor with 5 levels, these bedrooms provide just over half our fortress with really nice places to sleep. I plan to add windows and more furniture.

I plan to expand this. For now, it's lined in gold and platinum walls and littered with boulders and a stray seed or two.

If I ever need power, I could set up a generator that drains one cavern lake through this point to the lake below.

My migrants brought a bunch of spinners, so I put them to work harvesting the abundant cavern spider silk from this adjunct facility. I'm a little worried that some FB who can swim is going to come and fuck shit up, but as it stands I need to worry more about the siege.

I think the connecting bridge is really awesome, I mean. . . imagine a dark cavern full of still water. A narrow, shaky platform is crossed while fearing the lumbering shapes of water-grown trees. Strange sloshing sounds are heard, and you can't help but feel the enormous space above your head. - Salmeuk

So most of my food sits here, surrounded by farms.

This wasn't actually set up until about an in-game month ago, but since surface foraging is OP I was doing fine.

I have like 2k booze and 1k plants + misc meats and fishes.

I might turn this middle part into a well. - Salmeuk

I fucked up and had to dig a huge space to evaporate extra water. I might make this a cistern since I have no other use for it. - Salmeuk
