Moonchannel - 254 Early Spring by Dwarfbux

Map Description:

The fortress continues to soldier on. This year proved to be a lot deadlier than the past year. A blob titan made of coral with two tails attacked this year. While by itself it would have been no problem, the thing also had a web attack and I made tactical errors against it. Four dwarves died as a result, many of whom were actually marksmen, and two of which died in the hospital. One such hospital death was because people really didn't want to bring this dwarf water. Oh well.

Another dwarf died from drowning while cutting a tree. I am not sure if he understands how tree cutting works. Too bad, he was one of the original seven.

A forgotten beast also attacked later in the year, this one in the form of a giant scaled slug with thin skin wings and a poisonous sting. It never got a hit in since it got bum rushed by thirty dwarves and died very quickly.

The fortress is humming along nicely otherwise. Water related projects are underway and will probably take a long time to do, but I have plenty of labor and plenty of materials, so it is really just a matter of waiting.

Point of Interest: Kasserak's Tomb

Here rests the marksdwarf Kasserak Anűzdodók, who you can't say didn't give his all in everything he did. During last year's cyclops attack Kasserak thought it would be great to beat the cyclops with his crossbow. The cyclops didn't think much of his bravery and crushed his left foot to the point where it was no longer recognizable. Kasserak was wheeled away to the hospital where he got stitched up and received a crutch to walk with.

When the titan attacked this year, Kasserak, despite being of ruined foot, answered the call of duty and met the titan on the battlefield. He had a crossbow and his companions were firing bolts like crazy in between web shots from the coral blob; however, good ol' Kasserak wanted to use the same tactics as before just to prove it could work. Kasserak rushed the titan, avoiding webs shot like machine gun fire, and went toe to toe. Instead of using his trusty crosshammer like before, Kasserak showed his bravery by punching the titan straight in the body, fracturing the titan in the process.

The titan didn't like this and shunted Kasserak so hard that his body was broken and propelled him far away.

Shortly after the titan fell Kasserak was retrieved, but he suffocated from his injuries and died before he could even get inside. It is still said, to this day, that the spirit of Kasserak wanders the hills, punching animals and ne'er-do-wells just for the fun of it before getting his face beat in.

Rest well, Kasserak. May you go on to punch the angels of heaven themselves. - Dwarfbux

Well... Good luck with DF2014! It's only a few months at most for DF2015. I'm interested by the fact that goblins have joined a dwarven civilization. I had dwarves join goblins, or maybe they were raised from kidnapped dwarves or a clan of dwarves.

Enjoy the improvements, I'll be following your maps from the archive, I like your dwarfcentric playing.

Yeah the entrance doesn't hold a lot of gloom glitter nor glory atm. It's interesting to read how you talk about resourcing. But hey, you're only on year 2!

That was actually at the end of four years. I didn't upload the first few years since I didn't know if I would bust through understanding the military interface this time. Luckily, I did!

Man this is a GREAT fort!

I love the big X hallway in your Legendary Dwarf Quarters level.

When I look at the legendary dwarf quarters, a certain long forgotten feeling emerges... like something falling around the lungs or stomach. Jealousy? Awe? Pride?
