Moonchannel - 253 Early Spring by Dwarfbux

Map Description:

I think I finally have the hang of DF2014 after a long hiatus since about 2012 with only sporadic playing in between.

This fortress is actually quite boring so far. There are only two neighbors: dwarves and humans. Elves are nowhere to be found on this map and it would seem that the local goblin civilization has been absorbed by the dwarves. Moonchannel not only has a goblin outpost liason, but a goblin KING!!! Oh the dwarfanity!

There have been absolutely no attacks to speak of so far except for a single cyclops attack that has also led to this fortress's only death in the form of a lowly sworddwarf. Perhaps this shall improve in later years. If things remain ludicrously boring, perhaps I shall deliberately make war against the human civilization so that there are things to shoot at and subject to fun little death traps.

Point of Interest: Farms and pens

These are the fortress farm plots and animal pens. The farm plots are run of the mill. I have six, two of which are actually categorized as outdoors because trees punched holes in the ceiling when they were cut down (bug or feature?). The dwarves won't plant anything in them though despite having various above ground seeds readily available. Maybe they hate strawberries?

To the left are the pastures. Many of them are empty since I am waiting on the cave fungus to grow to an adequate level. The animal pens are for eggs, wool and milk, but more importantly for breeding as well. A selective breeding program has been implemented for several forms of animals so far. Dogs will be gigantic and muscled. Most other animals will be gigantic and fat (including cats because this amuses me). Dogs seem to be getting the worst of it because there were tons of them running around before I began this, and the slaughter factory continues to this day to get rid of the undesirable ones. Coincidentally, I have about 500 units of dog meat.

Once the animals are of the appropriate build, I shall see if I can't control for color and other features as well.

Dwarves may be involved with my mad schemes at some point... - Dwarfbux

Well... Good luck with DF2014! It's only a few months at most for DF2015. I'm interested by the fact that goblins have joined a dwarven civilization. I had dwarves join goblins, or maybe they were raised from kidnapped dwarves or a clan of dwarves.

Enjoy the improvements, I'll be following your maps from the archive, I like your dwarfcentric playing.

Yeah the entrance doesn't hold a lot of gloom glitter nor glory atm. It's interesting to read how you talk about resourcing. But hey, you're only on year 2!

That was actually at the end of four years. I didn't upload the first few years since I didn't know if I would bust through understanding the military interface this time. Luckily, I did!

Man this is a GREAT fort!

I love the big X hallway in your Legendary Dwarf Quarters level.

When I look at the legendary dwarf quarters, a certain long forgotten feeling emerges... like something falling around the lungs or stomach. Jealousy? Awe? Pride?
