Swordsmokes - 132 Early Spring by Salmeuk

Map Description:

Two years ago, this fortress lost 2/3rds of it's population in a terrible spiral of rage and depression. Now, after successive successful migrations, the fortress stands strong and healthy with 139 dwarves. 954,000 dwarfbucks have been produced in total, along with two different artifact bone swords. Giant gire-breathing worms and hairy, blood-sucking leeches have terrorized the fortress (my axedwarf squad was murdered by the leech - after biting their skulls apart it slurped up their brains) along with the requisite goblin sieges.

This fortress is building up steam - the magma smelters have been relocated and are producing bars at a fairly constant rate. More than enough food is produced, enough to stockpile and spread to various areas within the fortress. The military is overburdened with fresh recruits (this is good when many are killed), while the elite members continue to train uninterrupted.

Point of Interest: Refuse Piles

I moved them up to this first layer of cliffs on the outside of my fortress. I like to imagine them visible to invading goblins - huge piles of their friends and relatives, frozen and unrotting. - Salmeuk

Nice tileset. You know how to make it cool.

If you survived your tantrum spiral maybe you could take the risk of breaching to cavern layers? You could get some nice soft fungus beds.

Oh but you don't have caverns?

Not bad. I like the blue X in the smelter room. I do wonder what this "unforeseeable" security breach was.

I updated the default POI to the location of the issue, which wasn't quite a breach. In a convoluted way it was closer to blackmail.

Also, here's that platinum hammer and description, take a look. Not bad for a first artifact after a long time away from DF. (link to imgur).

Oh, now I see. Those overlooks are dangerous.

I do like that spiral ramp.

Wow, i like the magma metalsmithing. The lava channel is real nice. Also it's nice to see how you stock refuse outside the fortress side.n Other things worth mentioning is the food production line and the central lobby, that makes the fortress breathe.

You can download the compressed map file: 2014-04/salmeuk-Swordsmokes-region2-132-11.fdf-map but you will need the .NET version of SL's DF Map Compressor to convert to the .PNG image format.
