This design is my preferred setup for trade depots. The paired bridges, that raise against one another (visible here in both raised and lowered positions) are immune to building destroyers from both directions. This prevents the setup from being fouled by both trolls and tantruming dwarves.
The depot lies in between the two sets of bridges, which are linked to two separate levers, just to the left of the inner bridges. In this way, the depot can be made accessible to the exterior of the fortress while preventing any actual access to the fort itself. When traders arrive, the bridges can be toggled, and the dwarves can freely access the depot, but there is still no direct access to the surface. - fidelcowstro
The HTML5 map viewer is currently in Alpha mode - I'm actively trying to develop new functionality.
There should be many very obvious problems with the viewer; please check
the
Issues page to notify or comment on the most egregious problems to help
me prioritise. The most common will be Loading... with an error
in the browser developer tools console. e.g. RangeError: Offset is
outside the bounds of the DataView
. Feel free to
report a problem
with a link to the problematic map or point of interest.

You can download the compressed map file:

but you will need the .NET version of
SL's DF Map Compressor
to convert to the .PNG image format.

Is that purple ampersand a demon that I spy down there?

It is indeed. That's Nagnod Mountainpulp the Granite Crystalline Iron, master of the Scoured Spider, the goblin civilization that has been laying siege to Syrupurns.
