same location, used a 3x3 map with the adamantine in the center and Revealed.exe'ed the whole thing. Exported only the levels of interest (top 2, the lower cliffs, which are some 5-10 levels down, and then all of the adamantine levels).
Adamantine appears to use a radiating vein algorithm where if you follow a vein in both directions (including across Z-levels) it will lead you directly to the Pits.

You can download the compressed map file:

but you will need the .NET version of
SL's DF Map Compressor
to convert to the .PNG image format.

I see neither Adamantine or a River, is the river underground?

Comment is on the surface at the south of the map.
Adamantine has mostly been mined, there's a few lumps sitting on the ground. Hit the point of interest, there's 2 unmined tiles at the lowest z-level

Damn, I can't type.
RIVER is on the surface. I'll re-generate this map later (87 rejects) and do a reveal on this location for a better view.
And the Point of Interest centers on a mostly-mined vein, there are two ore pieces at the top and two un-mined segments at the bottom.

I also apologize, the World Location is north of the initial. (86,189) using Latitudes.exe
Adding Reveal'ed map in the next few minutes.

...maybe not. Dang, reveal.exe only works on 33e and older, this is a 33g map.

Use the memory.ini settings on Rick's Talk page.
Or use a non-revealed map and simply don't mine out the adamantine itself, just the tiles around it.

Sorry, the memory.ini's are on Rick's main page, not talk.

Ok, got the memory.ini data, still not working (does reveal or the .ini file need to be somewhere special?). I'd start over and mine around the addy, but that's a PITA. For now I've put some of the ore in stockpiles on the adamantine floor tiles in the microcline areas and left as much adamantine on the floor as stockpiles and wafer conversion have been allowing (I need a few nice statues for the Adamantine King--he's unhappy with his Grand Bedroom, Grand Tomb, and Grand Dining Room).
Playing around more with the existing fort, addy veins are radial centering on the underground pit-chamber itself. Hence very few large swaths of adamantine on the same z-level.

Doh, I'm an idiot. Desktop machine's desktop isn't set to show filetypes, I had a memory.ini.txt
Uploading new map under related maps.

heh, yea, that'd be an important setting :P
The radial veining is definitely interesting.
it makes a lot of sense though, that way you would indeed always end up opening up the pits if you get greedy.

Sure is :)

I thought the adamantine behavior was common knowledge by now, figured it out from reveal.exe a while back.

I'd have thought so too, but I noticed a lack of information about it on the wiki, both in the artical and in the talk.
