Sigunlokum - 1065 by puke

Map Description:

This is the Mountainhome Sigunlokum "Tourspears" in its final moments. The royal mausoleum is not yet completed, but the King is mandating Adamantite items, so this is as big finished as its going to get.

This fortress was an experiment in path-optimization. It could have been slightly improved by opening up a few more doorways and halls, but there just wasnt room between the mountain features its squatting it. Ultimatly, I'm pretty happy with it, and I think some of the visual touches are nice - especially the road, entrance, bridges, and multi-color workshops and dining rooms.

I'm not totally happy with how the catacombs turned out, but leaving them how they are is better than memroy-hack-editing or save-scumming. I think some of the flaws and non-symetric bits are what give this one its particular charm. its an honest fortress with no abuses. note that theres not even any noble-murder-rooms.

Point of Interest: Giant Central Farm

As observed by Markavian, this giant farm in the centre of the fortress has alarge seed stockpile surrounding by fertile farm land. Around this lies large store rooms to feed the the population.

Take note of the very stylish clear-glass doors, floodgates and bridges on the left side of the farm. - Markavian

Wow. I mean really....wow. Yes, this entry-way is truly of the finest craftsmanship. I only wonder how many 3 liter bottles of Mountain Dew had to die to bring us this truly glorious sight.

To SoulSkorpion, this is the Herbdog 16x16 set. I like its chisled stone look, and that it manages to look classy while still preserving the ASCII.

Guybrush has an updated version of the Herbdog 16x16 that I think looks a little better. Theyre both available on the wiki.

Δ Against the Demons
That bridge ends in a cloud of smoke, not rock. The military is still waiting here in case more demons pop out of it.

I had about two hundred caged goblins to soften the demons up, and now their clothes are smouldering. a few demons made it out, but mostly died at the end of the bridge.

You can see the remains of a spirit of fire (ash) and some burnt dogbones toward the bottom, just left of center. that was the last demon that got out, and gave me a good scare as it nearly started a larger uncontrolled fire. - puke
Δ Color-Coded Workshops
I tried to make workshops out of interesting colors, by using different types of metal or stone or glass.

With the different colored craftshops, i set their preferences to allow different skills of dwarfs. that way i could easily see which shop should be assigned which job. - puke
Δ Engraver Training / Stripmines
Yes, when I ran out of floors to detail, I trained engravers in the stripmines before allowing them to double-detail any hallways or rooms. - puke
Δ Entrance Road
Here is the front entrance. the road is lined with a checkerboard of bronze and clear glass blocks, and flanked by statues.

there are several areas that can be flooded independantly. 1 - the outside channels; 2 - the inside decorations; 3 - the inside walkway; 4 - the outside world. Also, they can be flooded with either water or magma with the flip of a few levers.

I tried for a long time to design wings over the skulls, but could not get it to look how i wanted. so i gave up and settled for the ziggy magma lines. - puke

Δ King's Throne Room & Bronze Colossus
Gold and Platinum doors, Plat thrones. That is the body of a Bronze Colossus there, who attacked while my military was all busy fighting the demons. - puke
Δ Noble Offices / Dining Hall
Yes, its a massively shared room. Yes, i know thats cheap.

But I liked the style of the grand dining hall, rather than tucking each one inside his own room alone. This just felt better to me somehow. - puke
Δ Our Pride and Our Doom
Yep. This is what killed us. The king ordered us too far, and this brings our doom. - puke
Δ Prisons
Iron Cages! I wasted Iron on Cages! they each have their own lever, and i've never seen more than two filled at a time.

The Captain of the Guard and the Hammerer have the bedrooms directly across from the prison. - puke
Δ Royal Bedrooms
All of the furniture is made of gold, silver, or platinum. the major "True Nobles" have double-beds in the large end-cap rooms. The minor nobles have a single bed in the smaller rooms.

I went to pains to double up on metal furniture, so that even the shared double beedrooms have enough items to meet requirements of both the noble and their concubine. - puke
Δ Statue Garden
You would not believe how much Platinum (and gold) was eaten by the statues in this fort. I actually ran out of the stuff. Both types of metal. - puke
Δ The Mausoleum
It would have fit before the chasm, but i didnt forsee those little spurs! I dont really like how it came out, but its beter than nothing, i guess. The little line of dark coffins are for pets. The wings hold all the dead dwarfs. Most of those coffins are full. - puke
Δ Trade Depot
Made of solid gold! The finished good and other trade-good stockpiles are right next to it, to make hauling faster.

all those clear glass bridges are raiseable in case a seige somehow gets past the front defenses. The water channels provide a line of defense, and also go on to feed the farm. - puke
