Earthringed - 216 Early Spring by Drone

Map Description:

Glorious Earthringed, after it's 4th year. Held off a couple of sieges and improved the walls of my fortress. Magma smelting proceeds at top speed, after the successful dropping of the magma piston last year. Killed off all the forbidden beasts because I got sick of em.

Point of Interest: Insane traders

Last year, The elves turned up, promptly followed by a siege. The elves got in, but then couldn't get out again because I was worried about if my army could defeat the siege, considering it was still relatively unarmoured. As such, I waited until my army was armoured up before sallying forth, resulting in the elves going mad and the camels dumping their rubbish everywhere and biting things and oh god it was terrible. - Drone

Δ 48. Fancy Archers
That entire floor is one long patrol route. The idea is that my archers will just circle that floor (when danger threatens, otherwise they return to their jobs (These are only dwarves that had archery skills, most actually were pretty good non-combat dwarves, such as the legendary cook) and then shoot out of the fortifications at anything that come past. This way they'll hopefully just rain down arrows at anything that gets near the fort without me having to manually move them every 5 seconds. - Drone
Δ 47. Bees!!
I had to replace some hives because it turns out ogres prioritise destroying beehives over say, the dwarf hitting em in the spine with a warhammer. Putting in a drawbridge that will be closed whenever I get sieged, to prevent it happening again. - Drone

I desiginated so much gabro and stuff that this poor guy starved to death before it reached his designation. I then forgot about him. bugger. - Drone
Δ 47. The noble army of Earthringed
Armed with Steel warhammers (the best weapon) and armoured with steel armour of varying quality (I have some good armoursmiths though, so it's all pretty good, at least 2 sets of masterwork and the rest are pretty close) These brave souls fight the enemies of of earthringed in all their forms, including goblins (also pictured), and the dreaded cave denizens that can fly over the walls in the caverns.
Also pictured is the gate guard, consisting of every animal that arrived in this fort. That pile of them is getting pretty big and I need to build some more coffins and designate a pet cemetery or something, damn. - Drone

Gonna smooth the hell outta this and fill it with masterwork iron stuff so they don't whine about how unfair it is and make a billion demands - Drone

rip forgotten numbing gas salamander beast, you died and became a stack of 360 meat, and permanently clogging my kitchen with (for some reason) uncookable tallow. - Drone
Δ 38. Second story!!
Coming along nicely. Lots of skywalks and stuff which make great defensive positions for archers and crossbowdwarves defending against incoming invaders. - Drone
Δ 37. Crippled Civilian
This brave Fisherdwarf ventured into the battlefield to collect and store pig tail socks. His sacrifice and dedication to duty earned him a mere arrow in the spine, the highest civilian honour awarded by goblins to dwarvenkind.
This left both of legs useless, And he now somehow drags himself around the fortress with his hands and can apparently do any task that is assigned to him. - Drone
Δ 37. rip
rip heroic crippled ex-militia captain fishery worker. You died as you lived, holding off a numbing and dizzying gas spewing forgotten bloated salamander beast with your bare hands (but not legs) while hauling a stack of fine dwarven syrup roasts. Your noble sacrifice allowed the entire military of Earthringed to turn up and beat the shit out of it, saving the entire fortress from temporarily being made completely numb and dizzy (and clogging the hospital with diagnosis requests). Incidently this prompted me to snipe all the other beasts off with crossbows. - Drone
¶ 36. Cursed Corpse
This is the forgotten beast that had an extract associated with it. Since I didn't want an outbreak of forgotten beast sickness in my fortress I Killed it with arrows from a distance, which incidently buffed my militia squad of archers up to at least competent (and the militia captain upto Grand Master). After that I didn't know what to do, so I tried crushing the corpe under a collapsing floor. However, This didn't actually crush it, merely buffet it around in a cloud of exploding dust and stone, however, what it did do was scour all the forgotten beast extract off and replace it with a layer of diorite instead!! this could be worth remembering for anyone who needs to decontaminate dwarves or critters of the stuff. I then started building a chenobyl style containment around it but decided against it half way through since it meant leaving my fortress open to the outside of the caves. - Drone
