Just got finished building the Claystone Inn. All my dwarves are going to live in a city that will grow into a castle. I've found that building from the ground up gives a whole new meaning to mining. I rarely have too much stone littered around, as I'm usually mining for more.
( 1054 Late Winter → onwards )
This is the newest building in my city, It acts as a shared dining hall and barracks for my soldiers. Below ground I am about to dig a stockpile to hold prepared food and drinks. As time goes on and I find better materials, I will be replacing the fortifications with windows and all the furniture. I may even one day replace the walls and floors with better materials if I feel up to it.
The tables are made of Gypsum. The walls, statues, floors, and doors are made of Claystone. - Chthon

Looks good, going for dwarf town rather then dwarf fortress?

Windows aren't made specifically by any job. You make windows manually out of 3 cut glass or gems. Because cut gems work, my jewelers can do the job in the absence of sand.

Well well well, looking good. You do realise traders and seigers can walk straight across brooks unless you mine out the surface? The town seems to be forming well, and the dwarves look busy. I would be concentrating on defences much more then you seem to have done.

Little secret. Since I've limited population (to 24 actually, but I'm at 43 due to babies) I turned off seiges for the time being. My goal is to get walls up and then turn on population and sieges at once. It's kinda hard to fight off 90+ goblins when you only have a handful of dwarves.
Also, I will be installing gates over the river entrances. I can build vertical grates there :)

Consider caging your livestock. It'll save FPS that you can spend on more dwarves and reduce the clutter in the meeting area.

It's a good thought actually, kinda getting sick of my inn being full of horses, the dogs go free however. That's just how it's gotta be ;)

Chton, fair enough, no point having seigers if you're not ready for them ;) ... that's why we asked for the option to disable them. Still, its fun to have a few skirmishes now and again.
