Arrowpoint - 1057 Early Summer by CSFF

Map Description:

The idea with this fortress was to create a large pit, and then build the whole fortress around it. One reason for the design was easier defense - the main, and only, staircase for the fortress is located in the middle of the pit, and is unreachable if the bridges are retracted. The design also lets light in to lower levels, and while DF considers the balconies around the pit to be underground, the bottom of the pit is considered to be outside.

Since I am lazy, parts of the fortress are rather haphazardly build, and there's stone everywhere. I generally tried to expand the fortess downward, around the central core, instead of spreading it out horizontally. As a result, most rooms are clustered around the pit balconies. One exception is the habitation level, which stretches further out in order to accommodate more dwarves.

Point of Interest: Cafeteria

Arrowpoint's main dining facility, with an adjacent well, kitchen, and a huge food stockpile. The cafeteria is especially popular with horses. - CSFF

The HTML5 map viewer is currently in Alpha mode - I'm actively trying to develop new functionality.

There should be many very obvious problems with the viewer; please check the Issues page to notify or comment on the most egregious problems to help me prioritise. The most common will be Loading... with an error in the browser developer tools console. e.g. RangeError: Offset is outside the bounds of the DataView. Feel free to report a problem with a link to the problematic map or point of interest.

Goal 1 acheived: you've created a large pit. I like the layout so far. give a courtyard feel to ever level. I though, also, gives a useful place to dump all the spare stone you collect.

A tip, instead of building a bridge 3 spaces wide, build 3 one space wide instead. Saves you a lot of trouble if your dwarves begin to experience homicidal tendencies towards architecture.

I agree with your sentiment about "Dwarven Military".

I like the pillbox idea you've got going on, and I'm working on a secondary wall myself. Hope yours fares better than mine has.

Wall is great. I like how you mixed the stones you used, makes it look more authentic and interesting.
