Firecleft - 265 Late Spring by Kardos

Map Description:

Thirty eight years in and we have the Trade Tower exterior done, except for the roof. The Obsidian Tower has finally begun to grow above the ground. The western wall is completed, and the secondary Dining Hall is structurally complete.

Point of Interest: Defunct access way

This is how outsiders used to get in my fort. Unfortunately the security measures were not extensive enough so after the bridge was destroyed I left it alone.
Now that the dining hall is done it's time make an upgraded version so that I can sell millions of stone crafts in an attempt to clear out thousands and thousands of junk stone. - Kardos

Δ 43. Secondary Dining Hall - Roof
This is the roof of the secondary dining hall. The centre is a strip of clear glass letting in the light to prevent cave adaptation. After viewing the entirety of this building let it sink in on how much more grand the main dining hall will be. - Kardos
Δ 28. Western Wall
The Western Wall is finally complete. It's foundations start in an excavated strip of bedrock, and the top is lined by a dual layer of fortifications. This is the lower layer, and is roofed by a glass walkway - itself lined with fortifications. The glass walkway will eventually be restricted to military dwarves, consigning the other dwarves to the safety of the granite path. The wall extends from the security turnpike to the obsidian tower. Further fortifications will be added to the north as more features are added to the fort. - Kardos
Δ 27. Trade Tower
With the exterior of the tower completed I have begun to full in the floors of the interior between other projects.
The overall floor plan for the 21 levels (those designed thus far) is quite unique, leaving a generous amount of vertical space in the centre for viewing pleasure. - Kardos
Δ 23. Obsidian Tower
The Obsidian Tower is finally done its excavation has now started to grow. The pump systems to actually produce the obsidian aren't in place yet, but all the supporting infrastructure is. The absurdly thick walls you see being built now will go as high as the scaffolding you see surrounding the tower. From there a thinner - but still three or four layers thick - wall will extend to a height to rival the trade tower - Kardos

¶ 22. Ground Zero
This is the grand mess base of operations for the fort. The two z-levels above this contain all the buildings for the mason, metal and glass industry. To the south and north, and in the two corner towers of the trade tower are endless bin stockpiles holding some 12,000 stone blocks, weapons, armour, gems, metal bars etc.
Immediately below you'll find the grungy living conditions that support all 170 dwarves, aside from a few nobles rooms in the trade tower. - Kardos
Δ 22. Perimeter Wall
This being a Legendary Lands game the enemies are a hell of a lot tougher than vanilla DF. To the point where I was loosing dwarves faster then I could grow them. I got fed up with it and added a perimeter wall around the entire mountain. Feel free to follow it around, you'll be at it a while.
This isn't a permanent structure. Once the obsidian tower is operational an immense wall covering more area, complete with moat, will take it's place. - Kardos
Δ 22. Security Turn Pike
I haven't done anything with this yet. I was to busy with everything else. I did however add an access hall to the dining hall a couple of z-levels down. - Kardos
Δ 17. Secondary Dinig Hall - Floor
This is the ground level of the secondary dining hall. The design is a ribbed barrel vault, fronted on both ends by slightly shorter - thicker smooth barrel vaults. Total height is twenty seven stories. Feel free to make use of the side views to appreciate the many arches that support the roof. Now that the overall structure is completed I am going to add lodging for about sixty or so dwarves and various nobles on either side of the hall. - Kardos
Δ 15. Magma Duct
What you see here is the access way for all the gears, axles and other power providing means for the pump tower that will bring the magma from the pipe to the south east.
The level below contains the magma duct itself that will pump into two of the reservoirs that make up the lowest levels of the obsidian tower. - Kardos
Δ 13. Marble Mines
During the construction of the dining hall I ran out of marble. So I started a small marble mine along the magma duct passage. Then I ran out of marble and had to expand the mine. I did this three times.
...
Stupid marble.
Directly to the east is the pump that brings the lava up from the magma pipe. - Kardos
