Releasetreaty - 1085 Early Autumn by Quietust

Map Description:

My second successful fortress in version 0.31.xx.

This fortress follows a much more strict cylindrical design, using a spiral ramp for access to all Z-levels; however, when a hunch directed me to install access staircases, I found that it significantly improved my framerate and reduced travel time between levels.

This fortress was generated in version 0.31.14; however, when it was upgraded to 0.31.18, one of the raw changes has resulted in foreign units (including invaders) no longer wearing any armor, putting a severe strain on my metalworking industries, so I'm probably going to file this one away and try establishing another fortress in a newly generated world.

Point of Interest: Power Plant

4800 units of power are produced here, most of which goes toward operating the lava trap.

Initially, these were all normal dwarven water reactors, but I discovered that allowing them to drain off the map edge while also being filled from the river granted them all permanent flow, allowing me to leave the hatches closed and generate full power without the lag of water movement (or the risk of evaporation). - Quietust

¶ 60. Magma Trap

( 1085 Early Autumn to onwards )
The primary defense mechanism of Releasetreaty. The pathway is covered with green glass floor grates, hidden in order to make the magma level more easily viewed.

In order for this trap to work, all BUILDINGDESTROYER monsters had to be modded out, since they actually destroy the floor grates and lock themselves outside.

The top floor is made entirely from green glass blocks.

Northwest and southwest: barracks
West: Entrance
North: Trade depot and refuse
South: Archery ranges
East: Hospital and wells
Center: Garbage disposals

To the east, the entire river has been floored over with clear glass blocks in order to keep titans from finding a shortcut into my fortress. - Quietust

North: Outdoor farm plots
South: Indoor farm plots

Each section includes 3 bins of potash fertilizer.

The levers to the north and south control the dams placed at either end of the river, and the lever to the right opens the shallow pool of water in front of the magma trap, ideal for washing off my soldiers. - Quietust

Pretty straightforward - all food is prepared here.

The smears at the upper-left consist of water, dumped out of buckets during the process of milking animals; they're teal instead of black because I modded descriptor_color_default.txt to make the "CLEAR" color light blue instead of dark gray. - Quietust

North: Main dining hall
South: Artifact museum

The 3 levers in the center are for the lava trap - purple raises the center pillars, blue seals the entrances, and red unleashes fiery death.

The lever to the north operates the danger room spikes in the archery range, and the lever to the south operates the silk farm several floors down.

Δ 55. Craftsworking District

Stuff made from stone, wood, bone, leather, or cloth gets made here. Soapmaking is also situated here for whenever I actually need to make soap.

To the east is a giant cave spider silk farm, after about a week's worth of silk production.

The Z-level above consists of storage space for input materials, as well as a siege workshop for training up an engineer. The level below holds furniture and finished goods, as well as the obligatory obsidian factory. - Quietust
Δ 52. Metalworking District

Smelting, metalworking, and glassmaking happens here. The Z-level above stores metal bars and unsmelted ores, and the Z-level below consists of a magma tank.

Asheries were originally located here, but were later moved up to the Craftsworking district to keep soapmaking-related workshops all in one place. - Quietust

Δ 48. Noble Quarters

The 2 rooms in the northwest corner house my Manager + Bookkeeper + Broker.

The 3 west rooms house the current Mayor.

The 3 rooms along the south are home to my Duchess; her throne room also serves as an artifact vault.

Δ 41. Cavern 1

The upper cavern layer, guarded by a chained Jabberer and protected by several layers of cages and a cave-in trap for particularly dangerous forgotten beasts.

This cavern layer is currently devoid of all animal life. - Quietust
Δ 35. Cavern 2

Similar to the cavern 1 entrance.

Unlike cavern 1, this one still has plenty of living creatures. The entire east half has been harvested of trees (to train up my siege engineer), and the jabberer posted here currently has a name from singlehandedly killing several forgotten beasts (though, to be fair, said beasts were all made of inorganic materials and fell apart after a single scratch). - Quietust
Δ 29. Cavern 3

Unlike the others, cavern 3 is mostly water, so there are 2 entrances in order to reach all of the spots of dry land.

The huge lake that makes up this layer was filled with trees which sprouted when a fire-based beast went for a "swim" and boiled all of the water away; in the year 1090, some magic was employed to destroy these trees. - Quietust
Δ 19. Jail

This spot worked as well as any other to provide room for a jail. It has been used once.

On the left side is a trap for magma creatures. Nobody's fallen for it yet.

In the year 1094, a passage was excavated to the south which led toward the Adamantine vein in an attempt to conquer the forces of Hell. - Quietust
Δ 18. Burial and Misc Storage

Northwest is my Duchess's future tomb, and the King's is due north.

The southwest corner holds the remains of pets, and the steel coffins to the south entomb the fallen warriors of Releasetreaty, complete with limestone memorial slabs (excluding 3 merchant guards which don't show up in the list for some reason).

The 9 green glass floors to the south used to be magma access holes for my initial glassmaking operation, used during construction of the pump stack. - Quietust
