Rocktrust - 1058 Early Winter by SoulSkorpion

Map Description:

The aftermath of breaking the sieges.

The defenders suffered heavy casualties despite their adamantium armour. This has resulted in a tantrum spiral, currently in progress. I'm trying to salvage the situation as best I can - I'd just abandon and reclaim, but that'll scatter my adamantium armour all over the map, and I don't want that.

Point of Interest: Adamantium stockpile

Fortunately, the dwarves were able to run out and salvage the soldiers' adamantium equipment after the siege.
I've ordered all the soldiers to disarm completely. This is so we don't have invincible berserk dwarves armed with silver warhammers and covered in adamantium armour! - SoulSkorpion

Impressive pump stack, I wasn't sure if it were possible in this version.

Access to the underground, battlements and trade depot. - SoulSkorpion
Δ 43. Merchant casualties
Merchants have attempted to trade, and been attacked by kobolds and goblins.
Goblins have got inside the compound, and are held back by the locked floor hatch. More goblin raiders wait outside. - SoulSkorpion
42. Barracks level

Troop barracks, weapons storage, hospital, well (with reservoir), archery range and drill squares.
The idea was that any attacker would have to pass through drill squares and troop barracks before reaching the civilian quarter. In practise this didn't really happen and enemies got through often.
I've had to modify the original layout to accommodate the shafts from the windmill tree, to power the pump system.
In retrospect, I would have put the hospital in the civilian quarter, to stop civilians tramping through here. - SoulSkorpion
41. Top of the civilian level

Farms, food storage, booze storage, dining area and crop processing workshops.
Beds to the east are because this floor is also the "creche" burrow, which all dwarven children and babies are assigned to, in an attempt to stop them wandering loose and being vulnerable to snatchers. Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to work - it looks like the kids don't respect burrow restrictions.
To the south is the power linkup from the windmills to the magma pump system and the switch that disconnects the power. - SoulSkorpion
Δ 40. The time-out rooms
Prisons.
Set up in attempt to contain the tantrum spiral. Each "cell" is an iron or copper chain, with a bed, food and booze stockpile. The floor is being engraved, and there's a bronze statue between the rows of cells for the inmates to look at.
I've gone with locking up troublemakers rather than have them continue to punch everyone and spread their misery further. - SoulSkorpion

39. Workshops

( 1057 Late Winter to onwards )
This fortress is an experiment in trying to maximise efficiency. From the civilian floor down, the fortress is divided up into 7x7 squares with stairs at each corner. The fortress design is modular, with rooms or sections being assigned in 7x7 lots.
The idea is that workshops can have stockpiles for their input and output on the floors above or below, as well as stockpiles in the 5x5 around them for quick de-cluttering or access to raw materials (as appropriate to the workshop). The bedrooms are also in 7x7 vertical shafts, intended to minimise the distance any one dwarf has to go to get between bedroom, dining room and their workshop. - SoulSkorpion
37. Magma reservoir

Top level of the pump stack.
Pumps are all iron pipe, block and screw, with iron doors and hatches denying access. Wherever possible, power is transferred by the pump stack technique (see http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/Pump), and otherwise is transferred by Bauxite mechanisms, since they are magma proof. Yes, there are now other magma-proof materials, but I'm a traditionalist. - SoulSkorpion
