Tunnelwound - 89 Mid Winter by Untelligent

Map Description:

The 39th year of the fortress of Tunnelwound. I'm pretty much done with it now. See Points of Interest for stuff and stuff.

Point of Interest: The Rain Machine

Early on in my fort, I devised a system in which I exploited the bug where a screw pump would suck up any quantity of water and spit out a glob of 7/7. Sadly, I discovered that this bug had actually been fixed a long time ago, so I converted it to a machine that would periodically store rainwater in a cistern for use in refilling my fountain. You can still see some of the remains of my original project around here.

North of here was my original 12-ish-story goblin-drop death tower. It was made entirely out of cassiterite as I had more cassiterite than I knew what to do with (and no copper), so I figured out something to do with it. Now there's a place some 80-90 levels above where I drop goblins into a small hole in the top of the tower. - Untelligent

I know I shouldn't, but I love your square spiral staircase! It's simple, cool, and I should have thought of it a long time ago.

For a moment, it was slightly disturbing to see all those tombs, and yet no bedrooms. What kind of death hole is this?

Kudos to you for hollowing out that entire south hill. Nice work. Also, nice mural on level 20. :)

Terrific fortress Untelligent! Do you plan on adding more POIs later? I can tell there's more interesting stuff around, but it's hard to find everything on a map of this size.

Starting at this level, 15:

15: Farms and food-related rooms, engraved fountain floor
16: Lower Plaza, fountain access
17: Floodable Depot
19-37: Workshops and stockpiles
38: Upper Plaza
40-59: Minor Bedrooms (four 2x2 and four 3x3 per floor)
60-79: Nothing. Nothing but 50,000 walri. Okay, none of those either.
80-89: Major bedrooms, four per floor.
110: Bridge to High Plaza

Δ 113. The High Plaza
The Queen's courtyard is on the plateau at the top of the Great Mountain. This point is inside my artifact vault oh my god who put those bins there I coulda sworn I turned off bins for this place. Ah well. On that subject, one of my masons just finished the fort's eightieth and final artifact, Worriedlobster the Abatement of Crafting, a Sphalerite Millstone. My first artifact was Triflelobster the Uranium Warhammer, so I guess I've come full circle now.

That thing to the left surrounded by red windows is a totem made from the skull of Chillbreach the Arcane Dragon. After eating a couple of my dwarves in the first winter, Chillbreach was slain by Vabok Ralrigoth the Bold by a pick through the skull.

Above this plaza is a series of rooms I made for the Queen's consort and advisor, but just before I finished the last requirement of the Incoming Queen I struck Hidden Fun Stone, so no entourage. That long room with the chair at the end is the Queen's Throne Room, and her other rooms are underground along with some tombs.

To the north is the entrance to the Queen's Mines and the Small Temple of Armok, which contains some holding cells for goblin prisoners about to die (empty now, since the goblins stopped sieging me a while back; I've been trying to provoke the elves and humans, but no success yet).

There's some other compounds to the north, which I'll entail seperately. - Untelligent
Δ 110. The Hanging Jails of Dwarvylon
Since dwarves seem to encourage cruel and unusual punishment rather than ban it, I made my jails hang precariously far above the ground. This is a good point to switch to Front View. - Untelligent
Δ 101. Some Stuff on the Plateau
This is a cross-section of part of the plateau so I could describe a bunch of things in one Point of Interest, you may want to switch to standard view and check them out in detail.

The colorful thing in the top right is the far wall of the Queen's Throne room. It's a depiction of the Giant-Ass Tower in gem windows.

The red thing on the left is the Small Temple of Armok.

Below those things is a cross-section of the mines and the Dungeon Master's Dungeons. Somewhere in the dungeons is the Tomb of Sarvesh; the tomb is publicly viewable by visitors to the dungeons through slits in the walls, but the actual entrance is hidden. Long live Sarvesh the Demonslayer; may he never need the tomb. - Untelligent
Δ 75. Some Stuff Beyond the Plateau
The thing centered here is the Mayor's Spire. To the right is the North Keep, which was created by slapping together random bits of architecture until I had three rooms for the Captain of the Guard. Below the Keep is the entrance to the Dungeon Master's Dungeons. To the left of these things is the Large Creature Collider particle accelerator. It accelerates the particles in the goblins into the particles in the ground. - Untelligent
Δ 41. The Upper Plaza
The midway point between the tower basement and the tower proper. The workshops and stockpiles are below, while the bedrooms are above. Four levels above here is the base of the outer portion of the Giant-Ass Tower.

Originally my depot was going to be on this level, but I eventually realized the flavor pillars on the spiral staircase around the workshops would block the wagons. Now the depot's down by the Lower Plaza and the staircase serves no purpose since everyone goes up through the workshops instead. - Untelligent
Δ 18. The Hall of Bones
The West Mountain was the site of my main fort before everything was moved into the Giant-Ass Tower. It's almost completely empty now, save a few scraps of clothes, some leftover minerals, and innumerable coffins, many of which were made during and following the Great Riot of 55 and placed wherever there was space. Vabok Ralrigoth the Bold is buried somewhere in this mountain, having died an ignoble death in prison, forgotten in the chaos until he eventually died of thirst. - Untelligent
¶ 16. The Lower Plaza
The lowest level (aside from the two underneath it) of the tower's basement. Farm rooms and related stuff are below; the central fountain (which also doubles as the water source for a depot flooder) was originally meant to be kept constantly full via a rainwater-capturer elsewhere, but due to a misunderstanding of the way u-bends work it now irrigates the farms when I refill it. - Untelligent

About 13 levels containing all sorts of nefarious traps for would-be invaders who decide that coming from the south through my sixteen champions or so might not be a good idea. - Untelligent

Δ 15. Vanguard Hill
The main barracks (sixteen champions and a handful of non-champion marksdwarfs) defending the southern entrance to the fort. To the east is Dragon Mountain, named for the fort's guardian that circles endlessly above it. Legend has it that if the Fell Dragon is ever slain, the fort will be consumed by an unstoppable inferno before year's end.

Anyway, I hollowed out the mountain and built a dragon head in it as a badass entrance to the HFS mines. - Untelligent
Δ 9. The Bear Trap
Some time ago, I devised a trap to drop some five dozen bears on the !!HFS!! and see who won. It took me six trial runs and three savescums to get it to work. When it finally did, the fire clowns killed all the bears, so I had to send in Sarvesh and his artifact uranium warhammer to finish them off. - Untelligent
