Blackjack-Blackjack - 310 Early Winter by Ambivalence

Map Description:

In which I get my comeuppance. The goblin leaders arrived at the head of the largest besieging army yet, and this time when my brave marksdwarfs went out to fight they were stuck as full of pins as hedgehogs. Shot through with iron bolts, the champions toppled one by one from the top of the palisade, falling several floors to the ground. Bleeding from half a dozen wounds each, few of them managed to crawl more than few yards before the goblins finished them off.

As this was in progress, legions of civilian dwarfs rushed to the battle area to reclaim equipment, and were shot down in their turn. Many died. After a frantic forbidding session, they were still getting shot somehow, and it really surprised me - see the POI.

Point of Interest: One-in-a-zillion shots, all of them.

See the down ramps, here? Those goblins were able to fire through them to hit my dwarfs inside the palisade! Armok knows how. They're on the same level, so they would have to fire the bolt downwards a level, under the wall, and then ricochet up the ramp. Scary! :D

...and that's my lesson learned, I'll have to block them up. As soon as the goblin leader gets fed up and withdraws his murderous minions. - Ambivalence

Regarding your attempts to pierce that aquifer... don't have multiple pumps pumping from the same tile of water. It's redundant and wasted effort.

Very pretty design! Can't wait to see what it'll look like when finished. And I'm sure you can think of something to move that bin of artifacts :P

I do, I can't help it. But the rich veins of platinum nuggets helped, there was tons of it shot through magnetite down below - very nice to find!
