FOR THE MAIN CAVERN POIs AND VF SCREENIES, CHECK THE 92 MID SPRING MAP. Or a later map, if you're reading this from the future.
After two weeks of solid effort, Undergrotto's second half is fully carved out! For the first time we have the entire cavern visible all at once. Digging took a LONG time - I literally had DF running nonstop (overnight, etc) for 10 days straight to get the cavern dug out, dump all the stone (close to 300k in this batch), and channel the up/down stairs away. Digging took almost exactly a year game-time, from 27th Slate to 9th Slate. Check this video out to see how arduous this process was for me.
The main feature of the upper cavern are the giant hanging stalactites, which double as housing for our industrious dwarves. As you can see, I've yet to furnish and engrave their rooms (not to mention giving them all windows), but the main objective for this update was to get all that earth gone.
Why not head on over to the POIs and take a look around?
I'll try and post VF and Stonesense screenies in the comments later. It's hard to see the stalactites without light coming through the mountain in VF, and I'm having SS technical issues.
Undergrotto's still got two, maybe three significant progress markers left in it, and I want to finish up by the end of February if possible. I still have a lot of projects left to work on, some of which I haven't even started yet, and I really need to get my dwarves into permanent housing. Some of them have been living in temp-res for eleven years now.
Making the bridge look more impressive is on the to-do list. Still, the entrance path is currently: Cross a bridge over a moat, travel up a ramp inside a giant hollowed-out mountain that will eventually have its own lake inside it, crossing a long bridge that leaps over the moat and part of the valley, travelling down a windy tunnel, then crossing a small pond with a dry path through the middle of it... and THEN you're in the grotto. The bridge touch-ups can afford to wait for now. - Retro

You can download the compressed map file: 2010-02/retro-Undergrotto-Undergrotto-93-5900.fdf-map but you will need the .NET version of SL's DF Map Compressor to convert to the .PNG image format.
