Undergrotto is my attempt to make a VERY large open-air cavern underground. It's looking to have a fairly wide area at this point (Nov 12), and will probably be fifty-ish z-levels high, most of that space open air. I really just want it to look awesome in Visual Fortress more than anything else.
Things that Undergrotto will have when finished are marked here map. I've been planning how to lay it out, CARVE it out, and still make it look 'natural' and aesthetically pleasing for about a week or so. It'll only be minorly efficient, of course, but hey. Dwarf Fortress.
This particular map is more or less entirely just for my own benefit, as I want to be able to check out the layout plans easily.
I just realized I'm not sure what year I started the fort. Once I begin engraving things I should be able to get a handle on that, I suppose. Probably between 80 and 83.
To reiterate, this fort is being desgned around 'looking cool in Visual Fortress'. That's why my tunnel winds around and is actually pretty tall-- it's 21 squares high at basically every movement to the side, having a 3-wide floor, three levels of 5-wide air, and then a 3-wide open air spot to make it look circular. Was... interesting to dig. At the very end is the beginnings of some temp housing; halfway down is the planned entrance to the grotto. - Retro
