Seeing as how well crafted meals skyrocket in price and make some of the best trade goods (as well as mighty fine snacks), I started this map by focusing on farming, intermediate food products (syrup, flour, leaves, etc), cooking and brewing. I haven't even fired up all the farm plots yet (only the center 4 of each cluster is in operation at the moment), and already I'm churning out some decent goods.
That is assisted by the fact that, early on, my stonecrafter got into a mood that made him legendary, and all the crafts are suddenly masterpieces... and many of them made of obsidian. Cha-ching!
There should be a magma pipe somewhere, I'll need to go look for soon.
And.... why yes, that is a tame grizzly bear tied up outside the front door.
Here is where we grow those plants that need large amounts of sunlight to prosper. These berries, grasses, weeds and roots are plucked from the soil at the perfect moment as the raw materials for our culinary artists down below.
To the north are the windmill axles that power the millstones below.
To the east, the butchers, fish scalers, and tanners have set up shop to provide some wonderful proteins that add to our delectable creations. - mattmoss

Seems like a pleasant and spacious fortress. The open ceilings to the sky are quite an impressive feature.

I'll eventually cover those in glass, once that industry is up and going.
