Wasprag - 42 Early Summer by Quietust

Map Description:

Much has happened in the past 4 years.

Unsatisfied with the abundance of dead shrubs in my tower-cap farm, I dug a channel from the magma pipe so I could flood the entire farm with magma, cleaning it up and allowing me to fully re-irrigate it (though a few spots of 1/7 magma hadn't yet dried up, turning into solid obsidian).

A well was also added, finally giving me an indoor water source (should I ever happen to need one), and a large room was dug for the purposes of power generation - right now, it only supplies 600, but can be expanded to over 10,000 should the need arise. Since no dwarven fortress is complete without an obsidian factory, one has been added in a fairly convenient location.

Sieges continued rather consistently, but then tapered off rather suddenly - it's been a full year since I've seen a single goblin. Fortunately, the elves have come to their senses and have started bringing goods other than cloth (possibly due to my having stolen their goods for the past several years and dumped them into the magma pipe) - my breeding room has been expanded to accomodate a mating pair of cougars.

Additionally, I now have proper fortress and royal guards, recruited from my various peasants once all of their clothes rotted away, completely eliminating the annoying problem of clothes strewn about the barracks.

Point of Interest: Obsidian Factory

( 42 Early Summer → onwards )

If you've got unlimited magma and unlimited water, you need to have an obsidian factory. All of the levers are color-coded - Red fills the lower level with magma, Blue fills the upper level with water, Purple drops the bridge and allows the two to mix, and Gray opens the front gates for mining access. - Quietust

Holy crap thats cool. How are you gonna get all that magma there? construct a big pumping tower?

I'll build a pump tower extending all the way to the top of the map, then direct its output into a tube that goes down to ground level, through a short tunnel, and into an opening at the bottom of the pyramid. Pump pressure should allow it to fill all the way to the top.

That's a fantastic fortress. Do the fortifications in the tower cap farm actually drain water?

Absolutely - in fact, that's exactly why I built them.
