Making my first serious attempt on a map without magma. It seems a little like a cruel joke that this has been the most mineral rich map I've ever run across.
I decided to go with a two-part gatehouse to maximize the distance traveled without having the wagon path double over itself. At times having multiple levels of looped road seemed to confuse my dwarves. I'm being more aggressive with my marksman training this time around. - Leggomygreggo

I'd never considered external gatehouses such as these, but it's a really good idea. Almost seems like something reminiscent of a tower-defense game.
Did you consider putting chained animals outside as well? I saw you had a pair of dogs by the entrance, just past the trade depot, but it occurs to me like that might be a bit to late to detect an ambush there.
