Another try...
Just putting water wheels in a row and shooting water under them doesn't work very well if they're not on a river. If the water's too high it won't turn, too low and it won't turn, not enough or too much turbulence and it won't turn. Diagnol flow is used as pressure control, restrictions and long channels affect the rate, and an output channel above abruptly lowers the water to help it power the topmost pair of wheels.

Finally! I can display my maps properly. The new compressor built this map in 10 seconds(the files were probably cached in memory from previous tries, it'll be slower direct from disk) without needing to allocate hundreds of megs of memory at once.
