Guardedroad - 251 Mid Winter by Zaltanek

Map Description:

Another year has passed. Some projects have been completed and others started.
The MWG was completed and tested on a siege. It worked (sort of), i think the siege engines did more damage than the MWG. I will be uploading a video of the siege.

Construction of the great helm has started. It will be around 17z levels filled with magma.

An obsidian foundary is nearing completion.

The underground river is being drained to see if I gain back any FPS (down to 5).

The sports fields have been constructed, so many uses for ogre skulls.

The upper level of the housing is still under construction.

Point of Interest: Obsidian Foundry

( 251 Early Spring → onwards )

Once this level is completly linked to levers it should be able to fill quickly. A water tank 1 z level above will allow water to fill to 7/7 before being dropped 3 z levels into the obsidian forms.
One lever controls the magma floodgates
One lever controls the water hatches
One lever controls the magma hatches
One lever controls the drains to the east on each of the obsidian form levels. - Zaltanek

The river is mainly because i thought it would be nifty. I like the way it turned out, the only issues are buggy pressure plates and death of FPS. That is why it isn't full. When it is river runs at 7/7 except where it drops a Z level. The bottom housing area around the islands was wallled off and flooded. The walls were then deconstructed. I was hoping to turn it into a garden, unfortunately for some reason tower caps aren't growing.

I think you need an underground river or pool to trigger towercaps. If you've got one any water will trigger them.

Any chance of an upload with the river redirected? It looks like it would be awesome, but I can't quite see how it works. Do you have pressure pltes and floodgates everywhere to prevent overflow?

The 250 Late Spring link has the river flowing. There are a few pressure plates that control the flow. The first is on the dining level. It controls the floodgate around the ring. It is in the small alcove on the west side. It triggers on water depths 6-7. The problem is sometimes it fails to trigger and the fortress begins to flood. To combat that I have emergency drain to the north, and a lever tied to the east west floodgates that I can open manually. Due to two or three floods i gave up and just keep it open all the time.

The second set is on the 2nd to lowest level. It controls the flow to the chasm. It allowed me to flood the housing level.
