Garlicgrass - 204 Early Autumn by Aquilegia

Map Description:

My first and only (at the moment) fortress. The design is quite bad I think to run a fortress efficiently; long walks between stockpiles, not really much utilization of the z-levels, but at least it works and I'm learning : )

Point of Interest: Goblin Disposal Unit

Behold the great Chaos of the Dwarven empire based around this goblin-pit, workshops and stockpiles placed in an especially unpleasant and unaesthetic design. Still I'll have enough wood and stone for ages and my next fortress will look prettier I hope.

Now the tower. It's 14 z-levels deep and is constructed by making the staircase first, then mining out the 7x7 square, channeling in the middle tile and afterwards i channeled the 3 by 3 square around the first channeled tile. Still some dwarves channeled under other dwarves, but luckily this resulted in only a few stunned dwarves before I made the designations more careful.

The pit has already seen some use. So far no prisoners have escaped when thrown at the highest levels and the cage traps here seem a bit superfluous. But 2 goblins have somehow survived the fall, but were caged at the lowest level and thrown in again. I noticed some strange things when some goblins were thrown in: somehow heads and other body parts appeared even 2 z-levels above the impact-zone.. maybe they have splattered a lot or they might have hit the edge while falling.. ouch. - Aquilegia

This is actually pretty cool fortress already. :)
You are doing very well if this is your first fortress!

Thanks :) I actually read almost the entire wiki before getting started so that might have helped a bit, but I intend to keep playing with this one until I understand also the late-game so my next fortresses won't fail just after I spend days on some magnificent designs for them : )
