No Orcs last year - they must be preparing for something big.
The quiet spell has allowed me to rebuild my military, and finally produce some suits of armour for them to wear. Meanwhile, the miners helped make operation GET WELL SOON #2 a success, have dug out the extra rooms to accomodate the sudden influx of nobles, and have almost finished the new, larger metalsmithing area.
Oh dear. Hopefully if I train enough of them as war dogs and tie them up near the entrance nature will take it's course and I won't have to start butchering them. Once chained up they should also provide an excellent deterrent to the kobolds that keep sneaking in and down to the main corridor. - Phlamethrower

Operation GET WELL SOON was a complete success!
By which I mean it failed.
Although it succeeded in generating lots of water and killing a kitten, the water then promptly ran straight down the funnel and out a hole in the bottom of the map.
Well, you learn something new every day.

You managed to make a mini chasm by accident? How freaking cool is that.

Do Dwarves actually freeze if their beds aren't close to magma?

Well, it keeps the orcs out.
Everyone died, BTW. A goblin seige turned up just as the last baby died, so the goblins ended up claiming victory.
