Foresthold - 108 Early Spring by timmeh

Map Description:

Well... I got the baroness and her baron consort. I also got the tax collector and the hammerer. I had rooms prepared for the noble, with the hammer's room situated conveniently near the base of the cistern.

I've had several more deaths, one I cannot find the cause of, a wood-crafter, and the other a mechanic, beaten to death for failing to produce nickle mugs for the mayor, with our non-existent nickel supply...

I've also finished the outer wall, and survived another goblins siege, although I almost lost this time, as about half way through the fight half my soldiers left and I had to draft the woodcutters to fill in while they ate/drank/slept. I've since had enough backbaks and waterskins made to supply 75 troops, and ordered all my millitary to carry 2 rations of food and some water.

I also raise the towers one z-level, and will probably try to get them a fair bit higher this year.

Point of Interest: 10. Basement Level 1

In the northern half of this floor you can see two storage blocks, seven bedroom blocks (although one still need it's furniture), three dining room blocks, and one workshop block. The three rooms just north of the ramps are the majors rooms, and I have just started remove the objects he no longer demands, such as the window to nowhere in his dining room and the bed in the office. The idiot has recently made a second request for nickle items, and I am tempted to cheat to keep the poor victim alive this time, as I have no way to get nickle in time to fulfill his requests.

The stranger looking rooms in the south are the nobles rooms. The five rooms connected to the western storage room are the baroness and baron consorts rooms. The rooms to the right of them have not been allocated yet, and the set of rooms to the east will be the kings if and when he shows up. At the moment, the hammerer has taken up residence in the eastern wing of the kings future residence, as I wanted the hammerer's bedroom to be directly connected to the base of the cistern.

The wierd rooms along the center hallway are the tax collectors, and are the only nobles rooms that are not smoothed, as he is content as it is, and I'd rather not tick off the other nobles by giving him better rooms. Actually, the north-eastern room is a sand-bag storage closet, as I got tired of accidentally making custom furniture stockpiles and ending up with them full of sand bags because I forgot to disable them. - timmeh

Lookin good so far. What's with the logs in the river?

I really like the spiral staircase design!

I suspect that the logs in the river fell in during moat construction: trees prevent channelling, so the trees were ordered to be chopped... then channels were designated before the logs got hauled off. I wish dwarves would move logs/stones away from the dig site like they do when placing workshops!

Anyway timmeh, it's a good solid aboveground fort. If I were on this map I'd be very worried about trees growing to block my wagon access. Are you planning to build a road? Will it be lined with watch-towers, or will the edges be sprinkled with traps?

The logs are, like Jurph suggested, from loose logs being on the tiles when they were mined.

@ Jurph - Thank you! I'm considering using a smaller version for the towers.

I've started a road (thanks for the reminder!). I plan to get some watchtowers along the road, probably connected to the fortress by underground tunnels, and with no other way in/out, to prevent unwanted access through the tunnels.

I like your eight towers along the road, perfect to impress those barbarian humans and elves.
I don't particularly like the smoothed floor tiles for this tileset though, they look too raised, if you know what I mean.

Its so... flat, at least on the surface! Very cool space you've sealed off though, and everything is building down towards an epic fort.
