Strokechamber - 204 Early Winter by Gauphastus

Map Description:

I felt like doing something with a fort based on or around a bottomless pit, expanding the hole and branching off with small rooms for workshops and other things.

I still have a bit of work to do, such as finishing the pit digging, and then channeling away all the unwanted rock at the edges.
I plan on using only constructed floors with the central up/down stairway in a + shape.

I want that update too. I like how you've circle-fied the pit, I would imagine trash disposal is pretty easy, living over a giant pit, although I would be paranoid about cave-spider bites.

Nice fort there. I see your usin mah map, eh? My first use of it I tried to make something this spectacular, but it came nowhere near close to this beauty. A truly dwarven work right here, keep it up man.

Introducing 'Grose' Craftsquest.
He was my leader (recently replaced by a very well-liked migrant, 'Bruce' Syruprun), trader, manager, legendary miner, and all-around cool guy.

He has yet to create an artifact. Here's hoping it's a good one, 'Grose'! - Gauphastus

Legendary miner and proficient weaponsmith, unfortunately only using weaponsmithing twice to make additional picks.
He will soon be making me some nice quality crossbows.
Hoping one of my migrants goes fey and hits Legendary Weaponsmith easy.
That'd certainly make Maj's job easier, not that it's very hard at the moment.

Arrgh. They keep making clothes.
I have one furniture item. Just one!
What you see here is a headscarf, two scepters, glove, bracelet, leather helmet, and a turtle shell gauntlet.
The bracelet is my most valuable artifact, valued at 162000.
The artifact tower-cap chest comes in at 100800, and sits in the meeting hall upstairs to be properly appreciated. - Gauphastus

This is where the magic happens. Sorta.
Well, not really.

It took a long time to dig this place out. This is why I embarked with three miners.
I was debating leaving it as a circular shape and dedicating each floor to a couple of workshops or amenities.
Too late now! Maybe I'll reuse this map and try that after the next update.

Gonna be my huge tree farm.
Pretty unnecessary since I import tons of wood, but whatever. It's another thing I've yet to really try. - Gauphastus
Δ 2. GCS silk harvesting
This is where I harvest cave spider silk.
He's a bit wounded because a wandering soldier decided to have a go with him, but he'll be fine.

My clothing industry hasn't taken off just yet though. My weaver keeps wanting to go collect the cave spider silk way the hell out in the middle of nowhere.
Still, I do have a lot of GCS silk. It's pretty awesome. - Gauphastus

Here's 'Malus' Papercactus.
Man, I love that last name.

Legendary grower, competent furnace operator, and wood burner. He helped my fort get some basic smithing going in the early days by making some extra charcoal.
Now he's taking it easy because the farms are overflowing with plants.

Won't be long before the plant count hits the 1000 mark.

I'm with 'Sild' Mirrorbalanced.
This guy's had his hand in just about everything.

Engraver, accomplished mason, competent mechanic, building designer, and even a dabbling miner, 'Sild' has been helping around the fort with all the big projects.
He helped make most of the + chasm flooring, hundreds of furniture items, as well as a little bit of wall smoothing here and there.

Now, he's simply on call purely for masonry work.
He'll hit legendary status someday, you'll see! - Gauphastus

'Shore' Toolsoak, a proficient metalcrafter and a great stonecrafter, met a gruesome end by the giant cave spider, now known as Basensalir Sosasmafol. She stumbled upon the great monster's web atop the mountain, and was quickly slain.

Shore was loved by Grose, another member of the starting seven.

Shore contributed a great deal of obsidian crafts which helped in trading up for food and valuable raw materials.

To this day, Basensalir Sosasmafol stands read to claim more dwarven lives on the mountaintop.
One day, we will strike back at the beast.

Here lies 'Olden' Lanceace.

A great carpenter and woodcutter, he contributed a large sum of wood to our fort throughout his time here.
He also acted as an axedwarf on occasion, defeating a kobold thief and even a gremlin in the mines.
In the winter of 203, on a woodcutting job in the hills far to the west, he found himself under sudden attack from above. He struck back at this unknown menace, causing it to fall from the sky -- a giant bat!

It was too late for Olden, but he succeeded in damaging the beast enough to slow it down greatly. Olden died, as an elite squad of fifteen wrestlers arrived.
The giant bat, Umidtoltot, was ultimately torn asunder by 'Bolst' Hallplayed.

You were a hard worker, and valued creator of many beds, Olden.
May you find peace in the afterlife. - Gauphastus
