Wiltedblight - 272 Late Winter by Lord Dullard

Map Description:

The last few years have been punctuated by several huge sieges by both high elves and humans, with wood elf ambush-sieges here and there as well. Mostly it's just created a lot of work for the haulers and furnace operators.

I have been exceedingly lucky with strange moods; for the first time ever I've gotten a legendary armorer, weaponsmith, and blacksmith in the same fort. The weapon and armor industry has pumped out exceptional/masterwork armor and weapons for all ~50 military dwarves or so in the past year.

Current population: 177. The dark elven king will arrive soon, and preparations are being made for him. After his quarters are finished I REALLY need to fix the waterworks system and then get back to work on the fort exterior.

Point of Interest: Catacombs

( 272 Late Winter → onwards )

Finally beginning to take proper shape, though more coffins need to be added soon for the peasantry. The outer six tombs are for the nobility, pen-pushers, and various civil lackeys; the inner six are for the founders, one of whom is dead. - Lord Dullard

Nothing says gloomy like a fortress in the shape of a deertick. :)

I LOVE level 15. It just looks great.

Kinda disappointed that you basically stopped on the other fort, but this one looks pretty good. I like the idea for Dark Elves. I've never played that mod, though, gonna have to try it out. Also, nice how you sealed up the lava. I see some bones in there, was that an elf at one time? :P

I may pick up Daggerwind again eventually, but I'm having too much fun with this right now to stop playing it.

The bones in the magma are actually fire imps that were injured by some of my wargs and later died of their injuries. However, several elves did end up getting incinerated by the imps before they were subdued. There was also a Hot Drake (basically a non-megabeast magma dragon in the mod) in the pipe, but it was caught in a cage trap before it could do any harm. Once I get a Dungeon Master it will be chained somewhere for fun. :)

Drow Fortress...? Nice. A small question, is the minor nobles area ever going to be full engraved, or are you going to leave it like that?

I'm not sure what you mean by 'full engraved'; I almost never engrave all the walls/floors in a single room because I generally think it looks exceedingly ugly. Normally I engrave in visually appealing (to me, at least) patterns.

If you're talking about the smaller rooms, I'll engrave those if/when they become occupied. I haven't totally decided what to do with them yet.

The scale of it all is fantastic, how many dwarves are you going for- it looks like it could hold thousands.

Edit: Now that's what I call a prison.

Now this is a DWARF FORTRESS. Haven't seen many like this, but this just does the trick - it appears to look just like a real idea of a dwarf occupied space. A must favorite! Shame not many have found this map or somehow don't find it interesting or what? At least Markavian was here.

The scale of the royal quarters is awesome. And the throne room is a wonderful piece of architecture! Yeah, this is maybe the best things that can come out of this game.

Funny, you've even flooded the chasm. Very dwarvenly. Your waterworks are brilliant. I can't also imagine how much attention making a design for this has taken - it only proves of good mental qualities of the maker. The Engravings are of good visual taste.

The positioning of the graveyard and everything! Very stony, perfect. This is really a Fortress and not some playground of a mad god. The best maybe is that this resembles a spirit of underground life. I see little interest put to living in the surface, although the gigantic aboveground entrance to the fortress menaces and captivates the surroundings -- As if there's anything that matters outside the dark walls of this dwarven accommodation.

I feel inspired to try challenge this map.
