My 5th or 6th Fortress. Still a work-in-progress with projects uncompleted. With a name like Relicsteel steel should be in abundance in the fortress, yet alas I have yet to find any iron ore. All iron has come from Goblins thus far, and besides some suits of armor, steel production hasn't been a priority.
A level below my stockpiles are the workshop facilities. All the main ones are here: craft, mason, carpenter, siege, clothing, gems, and mechanisms. The four inner doorways were supposed to enable me to supervise strange moods and ensure the use of only the best materials. I never actually got around to doing this however, and the dwarfs make what they will. - gades1313
The HTML5 map viewer is currently in Alpha mode - I'm actively trying to develop new functionality.
There should be many very obvious problems with the viewer; please check
the
Issues page to notify or comment on the most egregious problems to help
me prioritise. The most common will be Loading... with an error
in the browser developer tools console. e.g. RangeError: Offset is
outside the bounds of the DataView
. Feel free to
report a problem
with a link to the problematic map or point of interest.

You can download the compressed map file:
2009-04/gades1313-Relicsteel-region6-208-14809.fdf-map
but you will need the .NET version of
SL's DF Map Compressor
to convert to the .PNG image format.

I like some of the perimeter concepts here - having a large valley all to yourself, for example, where you can farm trees with impunity. That's pretty cool!

When digging out your obsidian farm, use ramps instead of channels. You should be able to just designate the whole thing to be mined out in one go, versus doing single lines of channel designations.
