Relicsteel - 208 Mid Summer by gades1313

Map Description:

My 5th or 6th Fortress. Still a work-in-progress with projects uncompleted. With a name like Relicsteel steel should be in abundance in the fortress, yet alas I have yet to find any iron ore. All iron has come from Goblins thus far, and besides some suits of armor, steel production hasn't been a priority.

Point of Interest: The Old Bridge and Killing Field

The Old Bridge was originally the only way up to the plain that held the fortress entrance. Traders and besiegers then had to pass through the narrow path before entering the heart of the plain. In the event of a siege, the bridge was raised to allow the military time to get into position, then lowered allowing the enemy access. Once a good-sized amount crossed, the bridge was again raised, trapping the enemy. My champions then usually engaged in a slaughter. - gades1313

The HTML5 map viewer is currently in Alpha mode - I'm actively trying to develop new functionality.

There should be many very obvious problems with the viewer; please check the Issues page to notify or comment on the most egregious problems to help me prioritise. The most common will be Loading... with an error in the browser developer tools console. e.g. RangeError: Offset is outside the bounds of the DataView. Feel free to report a problem with a link to the problematic map or point of interest.

I like some of the perimeter concepts here - having a large valley all to yourself, for example, where you can farm trees with impunity. That's pretty cool!

When digging out your obsidian farm, use ramps instead of channels. You should be able to just designate the whole thing to be mined out in one go, versus doing single lines of channel designations.

You can download the compressed map file: 2009-04/gades1313-Relicsteel-region6-208-14809.fdf-map but you will need the .NET version of SL's DF Map Compressor to convert to the .PNG image format.
