• Δ 46. The Other Dam
  this is my other tiny dam i made while i was waiting for the first one to fill. its entirely bauxite. pumps will bring the water up to it when i get them going properly, there have been odd problems with the water wheels.
  
  this dam is intended so an adventurer can come out of the tombs after plundering them for artifacts and wealth, drain the dam, and then cross the amazing bauxite and iron set of sky bridges and towers that lead into the fort. the levers in the top of each tower lower the bridge to the next one, the towers have bins filled with awesome stuff, like masterwork adamantium trap components.
  
  my super awesome mayor managed to kill himself by pullning the lever in the top of this dam then walking onto the bridge next to it, which closed and crushed him.

• Δ 43. Kings Tomb
  i intended this to be in the shape of an upside down hammer, although one of my friends who saw it thinks it looks like a set of male genitalia, so ive not been able to look at it the same since.
  
  practically everything inside is made of platinum, i have so much of the stuff. champers to the left and right hold valuable artifact ruby goods.
  
  the entrance hallway at the top is lined with the tombs of royal guards, and the doors are bronze, silver, gold and platinum as you approach the tomb. im intending to fill the little pit with water. i probably have more then enough dwarves to do this via bucket.
  
  the tomb is at the bottom of a maze of doors which i hope will be interesting but not too unfuriating for someone coming to visit as an adventurer. after you exit the kings tomb, if you follow the hallway left and walk that red bauxite road i have there, you will come out under a small bauxite dam, and get access to a long set of tower walkways, interesting items, and an alternate entrance to the fort. - Cheshire Cat
• Δ 37. Cave
  so i lucked out and got a cave with this map. after i my hunters brutally slaughtered all the ratmen and the one lonely black bear who lived in here, i used it for burial. this map proved pretty hostile for dwarves and initially i had no time to make proper tombs, so this cave sufficed. every coffin you see as you scroll down contains a dwarf, and lots and lots of them are children. every season now i get the message "no migrants even considered making the journey to your deathtrap"
  
  interestingly ive never actually felt under threat while playing this map. ive had such a constant overpopulation i only tended to notice the sudden loss of entire work shifts of dwarves to mad camels and the like when everyone would stop sleeping in the entrance hall as beds were suddenly free. - Cheshire Cat
• Δ 37. Main entrance
  This is the main entrance to the fort. all the rooms around it were needed initially for storage, mostly the retarded amounts of junk the goblin sieges left me with. without a source of wood on this map, and very little fuel for metalsmithing, i had next to no bins, so all these rooms were totally full at one point.
  
  the little line of traps only went in when an accident involving crosstraining my champions with spears killed nearly my entire small military, and after that i kept them so i could cage a few prisoners to have fun with.
  
  note the fortifications in the level above, facing both inwards and outwards. i can also pull up drawbridges to isolate the main hallway for sieges, which ive never really needed to do.

• Δ 37. The Dam
  this is the massive dam i chose this site to make. its made completely out of shale. if you check around the map a bit, you will find most areas dug from shale have been totally de-stoned, i actually had to go create a bunch of new tunnels just to get some more.
  
  the shafts on either side of the dam wall have little living areas and stuff which i have never used, they are mostly there so i could have more stone for construction. there are also some walled aboveground farms to the left of the water. allowing my dwarves access to to the farms, bedrooms or dining areas grinds the fortress to a halt as they run back and forth to get at the exciting new aboveground plant food, so its all locked up.
  
  it took many years to build, and many more to fill. the entire brook ran dry for some time. pity the poor goblins who live downriver.
  
  currently, the top layer of the water is dissapearing incredibly fast. the people on the forums inform me this is probably due to the temperature of midsummer.
  
  going down levels you will notice some little glass fronted rooms looking into the water, one of which is 3 z levels and has my artifact adamantium gear hidden away for adventurers to find. - Cheshire Cat
• Δ 36. Scenes of Death
  one of my latest batch of hunters has bitten the dust. you can follow the dam along on this z level to find the giant desert scorpion that caused this carnage, hes managed to get through the locked doors somehow and into the dam itself. unfortunately this scorpion got crossbowed before i could catch him, ive wanted one for my gladiator pit for a while now. - Cheshire Cat
• Δ 35. Fractal bedrooms
  these were the first bedrooms i made, and where my dwarves moved after sleeping in the dining room above this, which doubled as a barracks when i started.
  
  this is the first time ive tried fractals and i dont really like this arrangement i have here much. i like my dwarves with 3 by 3 rooms, its more interesting to come back and explore as an adventurer, so im considering hollowing out these rooms and making them into something else. there is plenty of space down on the much nicer main living area.
  
  just above and below are some small dining rooms, which turned out in a nice arrangement due to their being made for stairs access to the bedrooms you see here.
  
  lower end of the screen is the start of my farming and food stockpiles. i allways have too much food, which is demented considering ive only got 2 farm plots going at any one time and over 200 dwarves. there are two fisherman as well, and when i had migrants i used to make them all into hunters. - Cheshire Cat
• Δ 34. Gladiatorial Pit of Doom
  this is my gladiator pit.
  
  its the most complex gladiator pit ive ever come up with, which shows you how boring it was waiting for that massive dam to be built and filled. the switch rooms to the left and right control the bridges that can cover the pit, the water that can be used to flood it and kill everything, and where said water gets drained to afterwards. i can also make a network of bridges appear and dissapear to make things run around in circles. the simple little pictures on the floor help me remember what the switches do.
  
  the pit is currently covered and filled with the bones of a million tame animals whom i have just drowned to try and recover fps. experiements here have revealed that a two humped camel can kill anything one on one, and that one titan vs 300 animals (not including camels) will rampage for a season or so, get exhausted, fall over, and get its throat scratched out by a horde of kittens. seriously, kittens. the same thing happens if i throw an entire goblin siege in. - Cheshire Cat
• Δ 34. Workrooms
  this is the level with all the workrooms on it. there are also some bedrooms on the left, and some shops and a zoo and statue garden on the bottom side of the screen. the zoo is currently filled with workshops so i could lock legendary dwarves in there with items i particularly wanted decorated.
  
  wagons can access this level if they feel like it.
  
  all the shale on this level was taken for the dam. when i saw how it looked i decided to clean out the stone from the rest of the fortress and leave any non essential areas unsmoothed. it gives the idle dwarves something to do. - Cheshire Cat
• ¶ 31. Main living/Seeping level
  once i the pressures of starvation, wildlife and lack of wood for beds and booze barrels got sorted, i decided to make some levels in a more ordered, pretty way. this is where i started, first with a two level dining room, i was envisiaging a big underground dome when i carved it out. the bedroom areas grew one by one as i needed them, with the upper left one first, and the others counter clockwise over the period of many years. the upper right one is totally unused, i just dont have enough dwarves to fill it.
  
  i did all the designating by hand, if you look carefully you will see many slight problems with the symmetry.
  
  left big area is the dungeon masters place, bottom is the duchess, her consorts rooms surround hers. i set a sasquatch loose in his room for ordering my legendary armorsmith beaten to death for failing a mandate. right is the prison area, with all masterwork iron statues, and top is the kings rooms, with the hammerer and tax collector on either side of his throne room, a bath, and space next door for his consort who has not yet shown herself.
  
  if you zoom in you can see i put different coloured tables in checkerboard patterns. in the dining room. ive done this sort of thing all over the fort, i was really bored with that dam project taking so long. - Cheshire Cat
• Δ 30. Fight room
  room is being set up for a showdown before you can get at the nice gear behind it. there are 6 goblin wrestlers, the gold plated bits of floor are spike trapped, and can be activated by the player. a titan is soon to be installed when he is done taking care of my nobles and excess children.
  
  pulling the lever in the middle gets rid of every single grate around the outside, and sets all the bad guys loose. should be interesting. - Cheshire Cat
• Δ 30. Pretty looking storage and shopping area.
  again, i did this because i had so much time to kill waiting for the dam, this time to fill with water. its all done by hand, there are some little problems with the symmetry here and there. each oval shaped room is used to store something different, the stockpiles for raw materials near the workrooms take directly from the ones here, which occupies all the jobless dwarves and keeps them happy.
  
  in the middle are the majority of my shops, above this is the main dining/living level, and down a few z levels below this is the many levelled hollowed out water caves area, which should prove interesting for adventurers. right now they lack water.
  
  again, i did not sit down and plan this level. it sort of grew, first with me thinking i needed a few little rooms to store stuff for the shops, then with me going crazy and making the entire left side, then with the long hellish task of me trying to replicate it on the three other sides.
  
  the passage down leads to some of the stuff im working on for advanturers, and you can see the dam down there.

• Δ 29. adventure mode goodies
  artifact adamantium axe, plus adamantium crossbow bolts and other nice things for adventure mode. note the bugged out ramps one z level up. paving the floor above them then removing them from below does this. i dont know how to get rid of them now.

• Δ 28. tricky water caves
  this really big room is ready to get a few z levels of water at the bottom. its got a complex set of bridges with levers that need pulling to get to the long passage that leads to the titan room and the artifact weapons. the crowded room at the lower end of this screen houses gold and platinum gem studded crafts, lots of coins and most of my weird artifacts, like pewter shoes and turtle shell chains. - Cheshire Cat
