Torchempire - 311 Mid Summer by chuzzum

Map Description:

Fortress Age: 9 Years
Fortress Size: 166 Dwarves
Fortress Wealth: 1.2 Million

The concept of this fortress is to build an entirely enclosed clear glass cube in the middle of the desert. Because it's cool. All wood has to be imported, unfortunately, making progress very slow. I actually started this fort before my other fort, Killerlobsters, then gave up on it for a bit because it was progressing so slowly. I learned a lot about fortress design from Killerlobsters and decided to take what I'd learned and apply it to Torchempires.

Point of Interest: Ruins of old tower

Initially, this was going to be a tower the same height as the cube, that caravans would have to travel up to reach the trade depot on top of the cube. I decided that was too elaborate, and it would be better to go old school and just stick my depot inside the cube like a normal person. - chuzzum

Those strip mines strike me as a little excessive... I'm shy at digging out huge swathes of rock, but am comfortable with using magma to create fresh obsidian.

Congratulations on embarking on a very bold project.

Point: It looks like you don't have an aquifer. How can you miss waterfalls running down your clear glass walls? And a well. How are you going to make a well?

The strip mines are as much about training up a massive army of super-agile haulers as they are about getting stone. I don't really see the problem with mining out huge areas though, except you won't be able to build engraved walls there.

And yeah, for some reason I thought I had a brook when I embarked here but it is conspicuously absent. I'm fine with my dwarves dying due to broken toes, but the lack of waterfalls makes me sad.
