Walledwar is the new mountainhome for the Dagger of Crowns, a dwarven civilization.
This ledge hanging over the magma serves as a dumping ground for the thousand of tons of rock excavated from the mountain. You can see that the ledge and hallway are very wide to accommodate large amounts of traffic. Dumping things into the magma vent is a great way to destroy them; however this doesn’t work for everything.
During the carving of the kings adamantine throne, several adamantine thrones of lesser quality were carved before the legendary mason Unib Arbanlogem finally achieved results he would be proud to present to the king. Initially the dwarves wanted to sell the extras, as indeed they were exceptional works and extremely valuable. However the king argued that only the king of the dwarves could be fit to sit on an adamantine throne, so the rest were discarded into the magma. If you look down a few levels into the vent, you can see them still resting on a ledge.
