Walledwar - 221 Early Spring by cephalo

Map Description:

Walledwar is the new mountainhome for the Dagger of Crowns, a dwarven civilization.

Point of Interest: The duchess's grand villa

The duchess’s villa, with its grand fountain entry way, also serves as a community gathering place. After the unfortunate death of her husband involving his penchant for green glass, the duchess built a winery and outdoor sculpture garden off the main foyer. There she and her friends lounge on the rooftop, sip strawberry wine and cover the whole place with vomit. - cephalo

The HTML5 map viewer is currently in Alpha mode - I'm actively trying to develop new functionality.

There should be many very obvious problems with the viewer; please check the Issues page to notify or comment on the most egregious problems to help me prioritise. The most common will be Loading... with an error in the browser developer tools console. e.g. RangeError: Offset is outside the bounds of the DataView. Feel free to report a problem with a link to the problematic map or point of interest.

Wow, that river has got to be the coolest cave river I've ever seen. I take it you built it yourself? Toady needs to have cave rivers more like this, with all its windy, multilevel goodness.

I love it! It feels more organic and alive than some of those megaproject forts.

302 dwarfs? My god...

Where does that river drain to? Do you have a chasm hidden somewhere down there?

Submitted by: cephalo - 2009-03-05 to 221 Early Spring

It drains back into it's original drain at the corner of the map. It's a little 5 by 5 hole that goes through the bottom.

Could you go into more detail about how you engineered the underground forest? I see that you would have had to flood it at one point...howd you get it to flood exactly as much as you needed then back off?

Submitted by: Razin - 2009-03-08 to 221 Early Spring

I'm guessing, because of the line of wall at the end of the river, just before the drain, that he had floodgates installed in the riverbed beneath it, and possibly other floodgates at the end to keep water out while the excess drained. This river has inspired me to attempt something similar, very good job.

Yes there are floodgates at each change in z-level used for flooding. I adding a new point of interest for the control room.

You... threw adamantine... in the magma? What a waste...

Awesome fort however. I like that cave river you've made.

About the throwing of adamantine thrones in the magma:

It's all about role-play. It's a only a waste if you can't imagine the grandeur of a king under the mountain.

One can clearly see how much effort and dedication (love? ;) ) went into this.

Great job

I really love the fortress. The cave river and tower cap forest are both amazing.
