Inklight - 221 Late Winter by FacesOfMu

Map Description:

My largest and most successful megaproject yet, still in mid-progress. It's inspired by the barber pole look. The end result will be a swirl of water and magma rotating down and around the entire outside of the fort. As I wanted dwarves to remain fully productive during sieges, I've needed to mine out the fortress from the mountain, and now nearly the entire fortress is considered underground despite standing a full eight z levels above ground level!

Point of Interest: The Business Hub

The Aluminum depot fully engraved. An aluminum statue garden with a ring of aluminum benches for the older dwarves to watch the younger dwarves dance gleeful around the statue.
The prodigy trader (a legendary socialiser born in the fort) has his black bronze offices right there near the party hall and depot. He likes black bronze so I think he's made pretty happy by his meeting hall. - FacesOfMu

Thanks! I only caught onto this idea about half way down, so there's a few levels there that are blank. I could still put them to use if I wanted to create scaffolding along the wall for the engravers.

Δ 23. The beginning of the end of the mountain
This is the level that I started excavating the mountain down from. The dwarves could naturally walk all the way up here using the ramps the mountain laid out for us. - FacesOfMu
Δ 21. The Chandelier Dining Hall
The effect if this design is that water is meant to be poured onto the top of the hall, and the water cascades down the inside of the walls, creating mist on every level. I am unsure as to what I want to do with the empty floors, but I think I want to assign them to various nobles, with larger floors going to more important ones. Still haven't figured out the drainage, except that dwarves walking around in the joining hall underground will get a nice shower before the water flows off elsewhere. - FacesOfMu
Δ 21. The first door
Sweet memories! That 1-tile glass wall in the southern length was the first mined tile in the fortress. Each lower down that I mined out of the mountain outside I had to extend the ramp leading up to the door. The original rock from the ramp still sits at the base in a rectangle pointing south. The Depot was one level up and had it's own growing ramp between the entrance-way and the pond on the right. I wish I could commemorate this sealed up door with a plaque just to cherish it's memory! - FacesOfMu
Δ 18. The noble floor
Baroness top left, consort top right, hammerer bottom right, his wife the tax collector bottom left. I've just started replacing their stone furniture with that of their favourite metal. - FacesOfMu
Δ 16. The tomb
The tomb. Nobles one floor down. The rest in the mausoleam further down. I have about three artifact coffins to be used at some point. - FacesOfMu
Δ 15. Glass-domed sunken entryway and bridge
The four buildings will become barracks under a nice clear glass dome. The bridge rises up and welcomes caravans from the west. - FacesOfMu
Δ 15. The magma cap
I kept the lid on this pipe for a very long time and made sure no-one went near it. I caught 1 imp and fire man from it (in the dining hall and workshop hall now) and recently I collapsed the roof of the pipe and killed the remaining imp and magma man. It was exciting and especially good because there were no casualties from it! - FacesOfMu
Δ 15. The Outer Archives
About half way down the excavations I realised I could put that annoying last tile on the edge of the map to use by engraving it all before digging further down. So now each layer down is somewhat a record of things that have happened. Most is repititious (elected mayors and founded organisations and the fort), but some are bound to have unique events from that year. Like rings of a log or the layers of earth in geology telling a tale of the ages. - FacesOfMu
Δ 15. The Overview
Fort to the east, brook and chasm to the west, and magma pipe in the centre. The access channel in the centre is entered from the centre-west and diverts into the the two towers to the east. The north tower is the residential tower. The south tower is the industry tower. The dining hall hangs down between them. - FacesOfMu

Δ 14. The failed cat trap
Yes, I contracted catsplosion and tried to use this syringe here to cure mylsef but it took a lot of effort and monitoring. I also used this hall to flush goblins from their cages. The levers are up on the hill next to the interior pond. - FacesOfMu
