Staffrare - 113 Late Spring by Dakira

Map Description:

Staffrare Desert Outpost Log
Late Spring, 113.

These past two years have seen a lot of progress towards our original duties of securing Dwarven lands and sending water to mining operations in the East.

The Staffrare Reservoir took 18 months to fill and is now acting as a welcome oasis in the deserts. The aqueduct has been steadily moving as much water as we can force through and the southern wall has been expanded; Though still not completed.

With the news of success that we've sent back to the Mountain Homes I've been informed that Commander Koganarzes is on his way to inspect the Staffrare region which means we need to step everything up.

On to some civil matters;
The tax collector began making demands though I'm not sure why. He doesn't do much as there's hardly anything to tax within the city. City expansion has seen progress with new housing boroughs, new industries, and even ranches for all of the stray animals.

With so much greatness for us out here, we have had our tragedies. In the Autumn of 111 one of the masons, Monom, was acting rather strangely and had an evil demeanor about himself. He took over the butcher's shop in the fortress and sought some aid in his most secretive project. Monom came across the Mayor and killed him inside the fortress' mess hall. The Mayor, Armok rest him, was turned into a skull helmet. We're still not sure what to do with it.

Point of Interest: The Aqueduct

The aqueduct never gave much trouble and I'm happy that the raised bridges are keeping the water channeled as it goes off into the desert beyond.
What's interesting to me is that the water seems to be pressurized from the reservoir. I don't need to turn the pumps on the make it flow quickly. - Dakira

I like the premise, add more maps!

a drawing of Staffrare would look so cool.
It'd look a bit like an oddworld game, specifically oddworld stranger.
I love the town.

It'll be a nice lake when it gets built :)

I'm sure it'll look good when it's finally filled.
I'm not good at damming rivers, so there's a good chance I'll just floor it over and start pumping.

It's been a while, but Staffrare is back.

I have the exact same problem with having too many projects to complete. I have about 6 mega projects half completed on my map. Well, good luck with your lake. It looks like its going to be awesome. I might even steal your idea and start a lakeside resort of my own if i tired of my current fortress.

You could always make the unstable ground area another entrance. Instead of walling to the edge, start walling to the east and loop back around somehow, or connect it to part of the landscape. You could even then use the contained empty areas for random things like "housing" for nobles.

I like the idea but part of the story behind this fortress is to build a wall along the Dwarven-Elven-Human border at this site.

Dwarven Lands to the north east, Elven Lands to the west (forest), and Human lands to the south.

Mayor: finally the lake is full. Stop working the pumps.
Urist: Uhh... they work automatically on unlimited power, we'd have to dissemble them to stop them.
Mayor: Ok, do that then
:water moves up to 1/7 on main village:
Urist cancels remove pump: dangerous terrain.
Mayor: ohh F@#$%@#
:Duke mandates a wooden lifeboat:

lol, That would make more sense actually.
What was happening was that the entire town used the dry lake bed for traveling. So when the water came they all had to get used to using the bridges and oh did they hate that at first.

This map deserves my first comment ever on DF Map Archive...
everything is so astounding... there's love in this project. I think that is really inspiring to have a story background for the first dwarves, when I master a bit more this game I'll give it a try.
Man, you're an inspiration!!!
