Magma Man Flushed into Cistern by Mister Six

Movie Description:

After channeling out the wall between my magma storage tank and the magma pool, I decided to record a movie of the cistern filling and the rocks melting for my own personal enjoyment. (What? Don't you guys do stuff like that?)

But then the Magma Man started getting swept toward the tunnel, and even though it appeared he was fighting the current, he ended up in the magma reservoir anyway. Before I finish setting up the magma workshops I'm going to have to outfit a marksdwarf to stand guard in case the magma man gets troublesome.

Once the area fills up to 7/7 I figure he'll be able to move around freely, but by that point the 1-square-wide tunnel that was originally intended to minimize the chance that a magma creature would wander into the cistern may very well prevent the magma man from wandering out.

Most of the latter part of the movie is me just waiting, watching, and seeing if he's going to magically go back to the magma pool while the rock in the cistern melts.

Lol, cool.
Next time just use nickel/iron bars or carve fortifications (built ones will melt, unless made of bauxite). They usually prevent creatures from entering your reservoirs.

Yeah, magma men are just as curious about intruders as fire imps are. He wandered over to see who was disturbing the magma, and then got trapped in the current.

"Someone-else" there is right. Carve right up to the warm wall, and smooth the stone between your access tunnel and the magma (smooth the stone on either side as well, just to give your engravers practice). Make sure you have disabled stone collection, cleared out the tunnel, or forbidden the rocks in the tunnel, to make sure your miners don't linger in there. Then, carve fortifications in the wall. Your miner will come along, punch a hole in the wall, and then go do something else (because he's not bright enough to recognize moving lava itself as a hazard).

Problems?
