This is a movie of me reproducing the permaflood bug, with its surprisingly rapid initial expansion!
Important: If the movie appears blank or fails to play it is because it was recorded using a corrupt version of Dwarf Fortress. This is a known bug and is reported in the tracker, bug 2489. The DFMA administration is in the process of cleaning up these movies from the site; and hopes bay12games will fix the game functionality soon.

I think magma might not be able to do this. Magma doesn't have the same equilibrium code that water does (proper behavior in a U-shape tube), which everyone assumes is what's causing this bug. Then there's the difficulty of building magma-resistant pumps and mechanisms...
